Scappoose logging (Winter 2011)

Please be aware that there are active logging operations on the Longview Timber (LT) property off Rocky Point road near Scappoose.  Logging is ongoing on the south side of the road.

There are new "No Public Entry" signs posted that indicate that the areas that riders need to stay out of while the logging is on-going.  Right now this is the first gate on the left (south side) as you drive up Rock Point Rd.  HOWEVER, if you ride the trails and descend down to Hwy 30 on the south side, you will most likely be crossing this active logging area; currently shuttle access from the top gate to Hwy 30 is not passable.

Fire in the Western Yacolt Burn area.

Hi Everyone,

If you haven't heard already, there is a fire burning in the Western

Yacolt Burn area.  It evidently started on Saturday and is located

primarily on private (Fibre) timberlands at this time off of the L-1500

in section 35.  The size is estimated at 60 acres, although there has

been some spotting on DNR land.  For those of you familiar with that

area, it is north of the L-1500 near the Larch Repeater site, north of

the Jones Creek Trail system loops and south of the Tarbell trail

system.

We are asking folks to spread the word that any motorized recreation use

has to be confined to the designated Jones Creek trail system loops

only, and we are asking that everyone avoid using the southeastern

portion of the Tarbell trail system until further notice.

Thanks.
