Cold Creek at Tarbell trail report and logging update (forum)

We rode Cold Creek yesterday(4/24) morning early, and at that time the trail was still not cleared below the service road, and trail closed sign was posted 3 switchbacks past the upper bridge. The section of trail tread that had been cleared after the clear cut was in need of only light repair that we could see. Don't attempt to further further unless it has been opened, you will run into the operation once you get to Five Corners area. Please don't approach Night Watchman per DNR request. Further update and news on trail work party later this week

Thanks

Logging on Cold Creek. Cold Creek is open on the weekends. (forum)

Cold Creek Mountain Bikers,

I wanted to give everyone a quick update on what is happening on the Cold Creek Trail.

The logging/road building that took place above 5 corners or Murphy’s Grade has now proceeded below the road impacting a new section of trail. The indications are that the trail tread is still intact and should be able to be ridden

There is a scheduled meeting for Tuesday April 27, to discuss the planned reroute of the portion of trail impacted last season by the road  building.  We plan to address new concerns at that time.

Gifford Pinchot NF current conditions (forum)

After what was looking to be an early season on Mount St Helens is turning out to be otherwise.  Two weeks ago - from April 5th 2010 - the snow pack at the June Lake Snotel site was only 46 inches.  The elevation there is 3,440 feet.  As of April 6, 2010 snow depth is now 111 inches.

Current Forest Road conditions in Gifford Pinchot National Forest indicate that Road 83 is closed at the junction with Road 8303, the road to Ape Cave.  Seasonal snow plowing ended at the beginning of April for the season.

Follow the links above to monitor snow depth and road conditions in the Gifford Pinchot.

THANKS TO TRAIL BUILDERS (forum)

I'm sure this is just another boring post to most, but I thought it seemed noteworthy.  I just rode Siouxon and noticed that Jerry D cut out a bunch of pretty difficult to cut logs, now that entire area (above the junction of the Upper Trail and the Lower Trail that heads over the bridge to Chinook) that was a complete pain to get around is perfect singletrack!  Thanks Jerry, you do an amazing job with that trail!  Thanks to all who help with trails but special props to Jerry for keeping one of SW Washington's gems in top form.  He's also reworked some tread in especially difficult creek crossings and landslide prone dips.  Great day to enjoy the riding we have in our backyards!!!
