Gateway Green – Portland OR

Opened in 2017, Gateway Green is Portland’s first urban bike park! It is located in Northeast Portland off the I-205 bike path and is easily accessed via the Gateway Transit Center and I-205 multi-use path. NWTA, in collaboration with the Portland Parks and Recreation and Friends of Gateway Green, worked for 10 years to design and implement the vision for Gateway Green.  Each year, more than 150  volunteers contribute over 750 hours of time to build and maintain the trails and bike skills area known as Dirt Lab.

In September 2018, Portland Parks and Recreation announced an additional $1 million in funding for improvements of Gateway Green as part of PP&R’s system development allocation for 2019. Construction will resume in 2019 on the second phase of park improvements including restroooms, gathering areas, formal entries, and other amenities.  Also in 2019, NWTA in collaboration with Friends of Gateway Green, will develop a new gravity line off the south hill, with funds from a $40,000 Recreational Trails Program grant. The park has been a tremendously popular with riders of all skills levels, including youth and families and is hopefully the first of several new bike parks and trail systems that will be implemented once the City’s of Portland’s Off-Road Cycling Master Plan is approved and implemented.
