SUMMARY:Green Geckos After School MTB Skills Camp - Gateway Green (Tuesdays)
DESCRIPTION:After school mtb skills camp on Tuesdays (9/13-10/04) from 4:30-6:15 pm for Beginner 8-10 & 11-14-year-olds \n\n\n\n\nregister\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nAfter school mtb skills camp for ages 8 – 10 year olds & 11-14 year olds \n\n\n\nRegistration for this camp is for 4 Tuesdays (from 9/13-10/04). Please be ready to commit to having your rider attend class each week. \n\n\n\nIn partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation & Elaine B Bikes\, NWTA is excited to offer kids after-school mountain bike skills camps. Cost: $40 donation to NWTA (scholarships available email elaine.b@elainebbikes.com) \n\n\n\nDrop off & Pick up location: Gateway Fred Meyer Parking Lot\, Corner of NE 99th & NE Pacific  \n\n\n\nEvent Location: Gateway Green  \n\n\n\nRequired Gear:  \n\n\n\n– A mountain bike in good working condition. We have a limited amount of Trek bikes to loan. Please add your rider’s height information when registering. \n\n\n\n– A properly fitting helmet in good condition and is less than 5 years old* (Loaners available) \n\n\n\n– Water bottle and snacks \n\n\n\n– Clothing appropriate for the weather \n\n\n\n– Pack to carry layers\, snacks\, and water \n\n\n\nRecommended Gear: \n\n\n\n– Full Fingered Gloves \n\n\n\n– Knee and elbow protection \n\n\n\n– Eye protection \n\n\n\nParticipants should have their own water\, wear layers appropriate for the weather\, and have a backpack to take with them to the park. No items will stay at the drop-off site.  \n\n\n\nWe will ride if it is lightly raining but may cancel if it is heavy rain. Watch your emails by noon the day of the class. \n\n\n\nRider Experience: Beginner/ with ½ – 1 of riding on dirt trails \n\n\n\nThese classes are for kids who are already comfortable riding a bike on some “Green” mountain bike dirt trail and grass and down features up to 3-4 inches high. They can stand and coast on the pedals. They can shift gears and corner\, but it might not go as smoothly as it could — or at the right time. They are interested in rolling over taller features and riding pump tracks (or rolling terrain) without pedaling the whole time. They can ride 1-2 miles on a trail or bike path. \n\n\n\nDuring this class: Riders will continue to improve their balance over varying terrain including trails and pump tracks (or rolling terrain)\, as well as brake and corner with more confidence\, and shift more smoothly. They’ll learn to climb\, descend and ride faster; they’ll also learn slow-riding skills to have fun riding more technical trails including roll downs and drops 6-10” high – if they want to. The wheels may leave the ground on drops\, but we aren’t jumping quite yet. \n\n\n\nBike: The Green Gecko’s bike has platform pedals\, two hand brakes (front and rear)\, a seat that can move up and down\, and is in good working condition. Single speeds are OK but a bike with gears will be more fun on the climbs. No coaster brakes\, worn-out tires or kickstands. A Gecko’s helmet fits properly\, is in good condition\, and is less than 5 years old \n\n\n\nQuestions?
