Mt. St. Helens Full Moon Weekend Social 8/20 – 8/22
August 20, 2021 @ 9:00 am – August 22, 2021 @ 3:00 pm
Let’s gather for a full moon ride weekend on the Plains of Abraham. Until NWTA returns to normal work parties and campouts we will need to make do with simpler opportunities. In the spirit of our signature event SHIFT (St. Helens International Festival of Trails), we have set a date for the weekend of August 20-22 to meet at the Marble Mtn Snowpark and ride the system of trails maintained by NWTA and our partners for many years. This will not be a 100 person event with epic food, swag, and fun, but rather a low-key event, fully self-supported event where we will practice “Leave No Trace”.
The highlight of the weekend will be a ride to the Plains of Abraham. If timed correctly you can see two sunsets, the first occurs over the main peak, a second set in the blast zone. Somewhere along the Plains, the full moon rises over Mt. Hood. After enjoying the scenery, it will be a fun descent with your lights. We will provide a recommended start time, around 5 pm. Unless you want to ride twice in a day, you may want to take your kayak or SUP on the lake, explore the lava tubes, or other activities we never seem to have time for as mountain bikers.
Participants will begin to show up Friday for an afternoon exploration ride. There is a possibility that some folks will want to ride a Smith Creek loop on Sunday. The only thing for sure is the moon will come up on August 21 and there will be someone will be there from August 20-22.
Marble Mtn is a snow park paved lot, with no services, some dispersed campsites, or sleep in/by your car, trailer, or #vanlife. There are no electrical or dump services. There are 2 vault toilets, bring your toilet paper to be safe.
Plan to be self-sufficient for this event, which means bring your food & water. For those riding in the evening bring at least one fully-charged bright headlight, and cold weather riding gear as it can get on the way down. Before coming to camp why not go to one of our sponsors and buy some swag for yourself (like a new light).
No registration is needed. This is an old-school grassroots gathering. Looking forward to seeing you on the mountain. Questions? Email [email protected]
