SUMMARY:Flying Dragons After School MTB Camp - Gateway Green (Wednesdays)
DESCRIPTION:After school Wednesday Mountain Bike Skills Camp for Advanced level 9-12-year-olds \n\n\n\n\nregister\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nAdvanced level after-school mtb skills camp for ages 9 -12 year olds  \n\n\n\nRegistration for this camp is for 4 Wednesdays (from 9/14-10/5). Please be ready to commit to having your rider attend class each week. \n\n\n\nIn partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation & Elaine B Bikes\, NWTA is excited to offer kids after-school mountain bike skills camps. Cost: $40 donation to NWTA (scholarships available email elaine.b@elainebbikes.com) \n\n\n\nDrop off & Pick up location: Gateway Fred Meyer Parking Lot\, Corner of NE 99th & NE Pacific  \n\n\n\nEvent Location: Gateway Green  \n\n\n\nRequired Gear:  \n\n\n\n– A mountain bike in good working condition. We have a limited amount of Trek bikes to loan. Please add your rider’s height information when registering. \n\n\n\n– A properly fitting helmet in good condition and is less than 5 years old* (Loaners available) \n\n\n\n– Water bottle and snacks \n\n\n\n– Clothing appropriate for the weather \n\n\n\n– Pack to carry layers\, snacks\, and water \n\n\n\nRecommended Gear: \n\n\n\n– Full Fingered Gloves \n\n\n\n– Knee and elbow protection \n\n\n\n– Eye protectionIntermediate \n\n\n\nParticipants should have their own water\, wear layers appropriate for the weather\, and have a backpack to take with them to the park. No items will stay at the drop-off site.  \n\n\n\nWe will ride if it is lightly raining but may cancel if it is heavy rain. Watch your emails by noon the day of the class. Rider Experience: Intermediate/Advanced with at least 2-4 years of riding on dirt trails
 \n\n\n\nThese riders are already comfortable riding a bike on “Blue” and may be riding parts of more technical “Black” trails\, and over most of whatever features come along\, 8-12” high\, at least downhill. They can stand and coast confidently on even pedals for entire sections of the trail\, and they can shift gears and corner comfortably. They may be starting to jump and land on top of tables\, and they are interested in dropping features up to 12-14” high\, learning to ride pump tracks or rolling terrain faster\, without pedaling. They can easily ride 2-4 miles or more on a trail or bike path. \n\n\n\nDuring this class: these riders will continue to improve their balance over varying and more technical terrain\, brake and corner even quicker\, and shift before it’s too late. They’ll learn to climb\, descend and ride both faster and more slowly with confidence. They’ll have fun riding technical roll downs and drops 10-14” high. The wheels will leave the ground in this class\, after all\, Dragons are learning to clear jumps! \n\n\n\nBike: A Flying Dragon’s bike has platform pedals\, two-hand brakes\, a seat that can move up and down\, and is in good working condition. Single speeds are OK but a bike with gears will be more fun on the climbs. No coaster brakes\, kickstands\, baskets\, or fenders. A Dragon’s helmet fits properly\, is in good condition\, and is less than 5 years old \n\n\n\nQuestions?
