DESCRIPTION:NWTA’s Trail Sustainability Institute will be hosting Trail School at Klootchy Creek. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nTrail School teaches the fundamental skills needed to maintain our trails. Participants will be learning safety techniques and tool identification/uses\, as well as hands-on training of corridor clearing\, drainage\, tread repair and benchwork. \n\n\n\nNorthwest Trail Alliance’s Trail Sustainability Institute’s goal is to foster a culture of land stewardship within the mountain bike community. By training people to build sustainable trails\, and by training people to lead crews of trail builders\, we are raising the level of our own stewardship\, and increasing our capacity to build and maintain quality trails. \n\n\n\nOnce registered\, please sign the waiver HERE \n\n\n\nAlso\, to access Lewis and Clark Timberlands (Klootchy Creek trail system) you’ll need this FREE\, required permit.  \n\n\n\nWhat to wear: \n\n\n\n– Work clothes: Light long sleeve shirt\, Long Pants (no shorts)\, Boots\, Gloves\, Eye Protection & Gloves \n\n\n\n– Jacket (be prepared) \n\n\n\n– Hard hat or bike helmet (mandatory) \n\n\n\n-Gloves \n\n\n\n-Face mask\, if desired \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\n\n\n– Water \n\n\n\n– Snacks \n\n\n\n– Lunch \n\n\n\nSTART time is 10am. SUMMARY:Kids' Ride at Klootchy Creek - 8/13
DESCRIPTION:Kids’ guided mountain bike ride at Klootchy Creek; ages 7-12. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a guided ride on some of the best trails around!  \n\n\n\nThese rides will start out with reviewing the most basic skills and will offer light instruction as needed for particular features. We will split the group into Green Geckos (beginners) and Leapin’ Lizards (intermediates) and split into smaller groups as staffing allows. We will ride to the level of the least experienced riders. \n\n\n\nWe will regroup at trail intersections and as needed for snacks or layer changes. \n\n\n\nRider Experience: Beginner/intermediate with 1-2+ years of riding on dirt trails. Ages 7-12. \n\n\n\nBeginner Green Geckos: These riders are already comfortable riding a bike on some “Green” mountain bike trails as well as dirt and grass\, and over some features up to 3-4 inches high. They can stand and coast on the pedals for short periods of time. They can shift gears and corner\, but it might not go as smoothly as it could — or at the right time. They are interested in rolling over taller features\, and riding pump tracks (or rolling terrain) without pedaling the whole time. They can ride 1-2 miles on a trail or bike path. \n\n\n\nIntermediate Leapin’ Lizards: These riders are already comfortable riding a bike on “Green” mountain bike trails as well as dirt and grass\, and down some features up to 3-4 inches high. They can stand and coast on the pedals for short periods of time. They can shift gears and corner\, but it might not go as smoothly as it could — or at the right time. They can ride 2-4 miles on a trail or bike path. \n\n\n\nDuring this ride: these riders will practice their balance over varying terrain including trails and rolling terrain\, as well as brake and corner with more confidence\, shift more smoothly. They’ll ride up hills and back down; there will also be some switchbacks and places to practice slow-riding skills and a few technical sections.  \n\n\n\nBike:* The bike should have platform pedals\, two hand brakes (front and rear)\, a seat that can move up and down\, and is in good working condition. Single speeds are OK but a bike with gears will be more fun on the climbs. No coaster brakes\, worn out tires or kickstands.  \n\n\n\nRequired Gear:  \n\n\n\n-A properly fitting helmet in good condition and is less than 5 years old* \n\n\n\n-Water bottle that fits in a bottle cage or backpack with a bladder  \n\n\n\n-Clothing appropriate for the weather \n\n\n\n-Tools for moving the seat up and down if necessary \n\n\n\n-Backpack to carry layers\, snacks\, tools and water \n\n\n\nRecommended Gear: \n\n\n\n-Full fingered gloves \n\n\n\n-Knee and elbow protection \n\n\n\n-Eye protection \n\n\n\n-Tools and supplies to change a flat tire (with assistance!) \n\n\n\n*We have helmets and bikes to loan; it’s helpful if you reach out in advance to indicate your rider’s need and size.  \n\n\n\nEmail elaine.b@elainebbikes.com with any questions and for bike/helmet loans. \n\n\n\nOnce registered\, please sign the waiver for your MINOR Child HERE

DESCRIPTION:Register to Ride the Dirt Wave at Klootchy Creek! Ride the Dirt Wave race series was created to showcase mountain bike trail systems on the Oregon Coast\, with two days of riding in each location. Day one has several “fun ride” options open to many levels of riders. These rides will be led by members of the NWTA Klootchy Creek team that built and regularly maintain the trails – showcasing the favorite trails in the area. Day two is race day!  The Flow Duro Challenge Race is a fun\, fast-paced\, timed competition down a short\, flowy\, mostly downhill trail. It combines all of our favorite elements of friendly competition down sweeping trails with a small amount of climbing and a large amount of fun!  This is a great opportunity to come out and get to know the trails in a fun and supportive environment. The celebration of the Klootchy Creek trails includes food\, music & beverages on site. We are planning on rescheduling it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for the third installment of the NW Trail Sister’s Dig Series – Trail Maintenance! \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nDIG SEASON IS HERE! Are you ready to get dirty? \n\n\n\nJoin us at Klootchy Creek for the third installment of the NW Trail Sisters Dig Series – Trail Maintenance! We are still finalizing the projects we’ll be working on\, but we can promise you won’t want to miss this one! Specialized will be providing post-dig food + drinks.  \n\n\n\nThe dig series is a set of dig days dedicated to skills and confidence building. We have four dig days scheduled at multiple locations where we will cover the ins-and-outs of trail building in a fun and supportive environment. \n\n\n\nWe welcome all women and non-binary folks interested in trail building to join us! No prior digging experience is necessary.  \n\n\n\nWaiver: Once registered\, please sign the waiver HERE. \n\n\n\nAlso\, to access Lewis and Clark Timberlands (Klootchy Creek trail system) you’ll need this FREE\, required permit.  \n\n\n\nWhat to bring: \n\n\n\n\nWarm clothing & extra layers: We will be outside in the cold\, dress warm and bring extra layers.\n\n\n\nRain jacket (and pants if you have them): It’s January in the PNW\, odds are high it’ll rain and that doesn’t stop us from digging! \n\n\n\nGloves (waterproof are best): It wouldn’t hurt to bring an extra pair\, too. Cold hands suck!\n\n\n\nSturdy shoes\n\n\n\nHelmet or hard hat (required)\n\n\n\nEye protection \n\n\n\nWater\n\n\n\nSnacks & lunch\n\n\n\nBike and bike gear for post-digging rips\n\n\n\n\nTOOLS WILL BE PROVIDED. You are not required to bring any tools\, but if you have your own folding saw\, loppers\, rake\, shovel\, or hoe\, feel free to bring it. \n\n\n\nJoin NWTA and become one of nearly 6\,000 mountain bikers stewarding trails together in NW Oregon and SW Washington. If the cost of membership creates a financial hardship\, please reach out to us\, we can help with that barrier. \n\n\n\nThese events are very popular and sell out quickly. DESCRIPTION:Our first Dig Day in June is here! \n\n\n\n\nregister\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nAll skill levels are welcome and we provide the tools. Just bring your helmet and a snack. We’ll meet in the Klootchy Creek trailhead parking lot at 10am and go from there.  \n\n\n\nIf this is your first time\, you’re welcome to bring your bikes. We’ll drive to the top where the tool trailer is located – that way you don’t have to worry about leaving bikes unattended in the parking lot. Remember to dress for the weather\, and even though the forecast might say blue skies doesn’t mean it won’t rain anyway. We’ll also be working in some muddy areas\, so wear boots or shoes you won’t mind if they get trashed. \n\n\n\nSee you Sunday!

We have also had to limit the number of participants.
