Cost: $40 donation to NWTA (scholarships available email elaine.b@elainebbikes.com) \n\n\n\nDrop off & Pick up location: Gateway Fred Meyer Parking Lot\, Corner of NE 99th & NE Pacific  \n\n\n\nEvent Location: Gateway Green  \n\n\n\nRider Experience: Beginner/intermediate with ½ – 1 of riding on dirt trails \n\n\n\nThese classes are for kids who are already comfortable riding a bike on some “Green” mountain bike dirt trail and grass and down features up to 3-4 inches high. They can stand and coast on the pedals. They can shift gears and corner\, but it might not go as smoothly as it could — or at the right time. They are interested in rolling over taller features and riding pump tracks (or rolling terrain) without pedaling the whole time. They can ride 1-2 miles on a trail or bike path. \n\n\n\nDuring this class: Riders will continue to improve their balance over varying terrain including trails and pump tracks (or rolling terrain)\, as well as brake and corner with more confidence\, and shift more smoothly. They’ll learn to climb\, descend and ride faster; they’ll also learn slow-riding skills to have fun riding more technical trails including roll downs and drops 6-10” high – if they want to. The wheels may leave the ground on drops\, but we aren’t jumping quite yet. \n\n\n\nBike: The Green Gecko’s bike has platform pedals\, two hand brakes (front and rear)\, a seat that can move up and down\, and is in good working condition. Single speeds are OK but a bike with gears will be more fun on the climbs. No coaster brakes\, worn-out tires or kickstands. A Gecko’s helmet fits properly\, is in good condition\, and is less than 5 years old \n\n\n\nRequired Gear:  \n\n\n\n-A properly fitting helmet in good condition and is less than 5 years old*  \n\n\n\n-Water bottle and snacks \n\n\n\n-Clothing appropriate for the weather \n\n\n\n-Pack to carry layers\, snacks\, and water \n\n\n\nRecommended Gear: \n\n\n\n– Full-fingered gloves \n\n\n\n-Knee and elbow protection \n\n\n\n-Eye protection \n\n\n\n*We have helmets to loan! \n\n\n\nParticipants should have their own water\, wear layers appropriate for the weather\, and have a backpack to take with them to the park. No items will stay at the drop-off site.  \n\n\n\nQuestions? Email elaine.b@elainebbikes.com \n\n\n\nCOVID – 19 & Waiver:  \n\n\n\nNWTA follows the current state-mandated protocols. You can shift gears\, corner\, climb and descend\, but there are a few places where they need to get off the bike to walk. You are interested in rolling over taller features\, and possibly riding pump tracks (or rolling terrain) without pedaling the whole time. You can ride 2 miles or more on a trail or bike path. \n\n\n\nThis class is for: a beginning to intermediate rider who has taken a class or two but wants some skills to handle some more technical features. \n\n\n\nDuring this class: Riders will review their basic body position and spend more time riding over varying terrain including trails and rolling terrain\, as well as brake and corner with more confidence. They’ll learn to climb\, descend and ride faster; they’ll also learn slow-riding skills to have fun riding more technical trails with features up to 2” high or so on the way up and up to 4” or so high on the way down. We will also discuss riding in a group and trail etiquette\, basic bike fit information\, decision-making on the trail on whether to ride a feature or not and safe bailout techniques when things get too interesting.  \n\n\n\nBike: A mountain bike\, either a hardtail or full suspension in good working condition with platform pedals\, knobby tires\, two-hand brakes (front and rear)\, and a seat that can move up and down. Single speeds are OK but a bike with gears will be more fun on the climbs. No worn-out tires or kickstands.  \n\n\n\nRequired Gear:  \n\n\n\n-A properly fitting helmet in good condition and is less than 5 years old. \n\n\n\n-Water bottle and snacks \n\n\n\n-Clothing appropriate for the weather \n\n\n\n-Tools for moving the seat up and down if necessary \n\n\n\n-Pack to carry layers\, snacks\, tools\, and water \n\n\n\nRecommended Gear: \n\n\n\n-Full-fingered gloves \n\n\n\n-Knee and elbow protection \n\n\n\n-Eye protection \n\n\n\n-Tools and supplies to change a flat tire (with assistance!) \n\n\n\nOnce registered\, please sign the waiver HERE \n\n\n\nNWTA follows the current state-mandated protocols. Please add your rider’s height information when registering. \n\n\n\n– A properly fitting helmet in good condition and is less than 5 years old* (Loaners available) \n\n\n\n– Water bottle and snacks \n\n\n\n– Clothing appropriate for the weather \n\n\n\n– Pack to carry layers\, snacks\, and water \n\n\n\nRecommended Gear: \n\n\n\n– Full Fingered Gloves \n\n\n\n– Knee and elbow protection \n\n\n\n– Eye protection \n\n\n\nParticipants should have their own water\, wear layers appropriate for the weather\, and have a backpack to take with them to the park. No items will stay at the drop-off site.  \n\n\n\nWe will ride if it is lightly raining but may cancel if it is heavy rain. Watch your emails by noon the day of the class. \n\n\n\nRider Experience: Intermediate with at least 2 years of riding on dirt trails
\n\n\n\nThese riders are already comfortable riding a bike on “Green” and may be riding parts of moderately technical “Blue” trails\, and down features\, 4-8 inches high. They can stand and coast confidently on even pedals for longer sections of trail\, and they can shift gears and corner comfortably. They are interested in dropping features up to 12-14” high\, learning to jump\, manual\, and riding pump tracks or rolling terrain faster\, without pedaling. They can ride 2-4 miles or more on a trail or bike path. \n\n\n\nDuring this class: these riders will continue to improve their balance over varying and more technical terrain\, brake and corner even quicker\, with more exaggerated body movements\, and they can shift gears before it’s too late. They’ll learn to climb\, descend and ride both faster and more slowly with confidence. They’ll and have fun riding technical roll downs and drops 8-10” high – if they want to. The wheels may leave the ground in this class\, after all\, Leapin’ Lizards want to learn how to jump!  \n\n\n\nBike: A Leapin’ Lizard’s bike has platform pedals\, two hand brakes\, a seat that can move up and down\, and is in good working condition. Single speeds are OK but a bike with gears will be more fun on the climbs. No coaster brakes\, kickstands\, baskets\, or fenders. A Lizard’s helmet fits properly\, is in good condition\, and is less than 5 years old. \n\n\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:Trail School: Benching Clinic - 2/18
DESCRIPTION:The Trail Sustainability Institute presents its first focused benching clinic at Rocky Point Trails. \n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE. \n\n\n\nThe Trail Sustainability Institute (TSI) presents its first focused clinic on how to properly bench cut a trail. This clinic’s instruction centers around the proper techniques and approaches when establishing or maintaining a trail’s bench.  \n\n\n\nWhat the heck is a bench? We are glad you asked! \n\n\n\nA bench is what is left after the excavation of a hillside to create a back slope and trail tread. This can be the most substantial part of establishing a trail that winds along a hillside.  \n\n\n\nJoin TSI while we pilot this skill-specific clinic. As we look to the future\, we hope to offer more opportunities for these types of distinctive skill-building clinics. Stay tuned! \n\n\n\nOnce registered\, please sign the waiver HERE \n\n\n\nWhat to wear: \n\n\n\n– Work clothes: Light long sleeve shirt\, Long Pants (no shorts)\, Boots\, Gloves\, Eye Protection & Gloves \n\n\n\n– Jacket (be prepared) \n\n\n\n– Hard hat or bike helmet (mandatory) \n\n\n\n-Gloves \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\n\n\n– Water \n\n\n\n– Snacks \n\n\n\n– Lunch \n\n\n\nSTART time is 10am. Please have yourself and your gear ready by that time. You may find it helpful to arrive 15 minutes early. We will be meeting at the covered area.  \n\n\n\nIn accordance with our agreement with Weyerhaeuser\, the land manager of Rocky Point\, those who enter the property must be an NWTA member in good standing and have signed the Rocky Point Waiver. Join NWTA and become one of nearly 6\,000 mountain bikers stewarding trails together in NW Oregon and SW Washington.
