SUMMARY:Green Geckos Mountain Bike Clinic on 4/2
DESCRIPTION:Mountain Bike Skills Class for Beginner/Intermediate 8-11-year-olds \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nLet’s celebrate the GRAND OPENING of Metro’s Newell Creek Nature Park! \n\n\n\nBefore the festivities start NWTA is conducting a mountain bike skills clinic from 10:00 am – 11:30 am. \n\n\n\nFor Ages: 8-11 \n\n\n\nRider Experience: Beginner/intermediate with ½ – 1 of riding on dirt trails \n\n\n\nPre-registration is required  \n\n\n\nGrand Opening Details can be found HERE.  \n\n\n\nEvent Location: Newell Creek Nature Park \n\n\n\nEvent Parking: Hilltop Mall 325 Beavercreek Road\, Oregon City \n\n\n\nParking is in front of Regal Cinemas at Hilltop Mall\, across Molalla Avenue. It is about a six-minute walk to the park. The parking lot at the park will be reserved primarily for guests with mobility concerns and elderly visitors.  \n\n\n\nNo bike or helmet required! Kids can use one of our Trek Bicycles! \n\n\n\nThis class is for kids who are already comfortable riding a bike on some “Green” mountain bike dirt trail and grass and down features up to 3-4 inches high. They can stand and coast on the pedals. They can shift gears and corner\, but it might not go as smoothly as it could — or at the right time. They are interested in rolling over taller features and riding rolling terrain without pedaling the whole time. They can ride 1-2 miles on a trail or bike path. \n\n\n\nDuring this class: Riders will learn to ride in an organized manner into and out of the trails at Newell Creek Canyon. Riders will work on balancing improving shifting over varying terrain\, including trails and rolling terrain\, and corner with more confidence\, more smoothly. They’ll learn to climb\, descend and ride faster; they’ll also learn slow-riding skills to have fun riding more technical trails\, including drops 6-10” high – if they want to. The wheels may leave the ground on drops\, but we aren’t jumping yet. \n\n\n\nEquipment: Participants can use one of our Trek Fleet bikes (& helmet provided) \n\n\n\nParticipants should wear layers appropriate for the weather\, and clothing suitable for a bike ride. Flat shoes\, no loose clothing or straps. \n\n\n\nQuestions? Email juntu@nw-trail.org \n\n\n\nOnce registration is completed please sign NWTA/METRO Event waiver \n\n\n\nNWTA follows the current state-mandated protocols. The most current information can be found here: State of Oregon COVID mandates \n\n\n\nThank you to our event sponsors: \n\n\n\nProject^ \n\n\n\nElaine B Bikes \n\n\n\nTrek Bicycles \n\n\n\nREI  \n\n\n\n& Metro.

SUMMARY:Gorge Trail 400 Rehabilitation on 4/9
DESCRIPTION:Let’s do some work on Gorge Trail 400! \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nWe would like you to join us for a unique opportunity to work on a legacy project in the Columbia River Gorge near Cascade Locks on the Gorge 400 Trail. NWTA does not get to build or modify mountain bike trails on federal land in a national scenic area that often. This is a project that will be in the public trust for generations. \n\n\n\nWithin the project to build new trails near Cascade Locks\, we have also been asked to Rehabilitate the existing Gorge 400 trail. The project provides a unique opportunity to apply a different set of trail building techniques to the existing rock treads\, drainages\, a stream crossing\, and spring. \n\n\n\nWhere: Wyeth Campground next to the Wyeth Trailhead at 750 Herman Creek Rd. Cascade Locks\, OR 97014. \n\n\n\nWhen: Saturday\, April 9th. We START at 10:00am and finish up at 3:00pm . Please have you and your gear ready at 10am. Arriving 15 minutes early is always a good idea. We will be meeting at the Wyeth Campground. \n\n\n\nWhat To Bring: Water\, snacks\, lunch. Check the weather forecast. Don’t be fooled\, we live in the PNW. Bring layers and a rain jacket\, gloves\, and sturdy shoes. Bring tools if you have them\, if not we will have extras. A hard hat or bike helmet is REQUIRED.  \n\n\n\nWhy: Just like nearly everywhere else\, the trails near Cascade Locks are maintained by volunteers. This means\, if we didn’t maintain these trails\, we wouldn’t have trails. It’s as easy as that. When we are stewards for our trails\, we are creating opportunities for ourselves\, others\, and for generations to come. That is our ‘why’! \n\n\n\nBikes aren’t needed for the work party\, but if you want to ride the trails afterward\, you are welcome to bring them. Bikes\, NWTA presents Ride Leader Training for those interested in leading mountain bike group rides. \n\n\n\nLeading or helping with group rides is a fun way to find riding buddies and share enthusiasm for mountain biking by introducing ways to enjoy a ride more comfortably\, safely\, and confidently. Leading rides also helps grow the sport and increase trail stewardship by involving and inviting riders at any level\, especially beginners to the sport or trail system and those new to the area. \n\n\n\nRide Leader Intro course is a basic introduction to leading rides and what tasks need to happen before\, during & after a ride\, and what to do if something goes wrong. This training is designed to increase the confidence of anyone interested in leading\, co-leading\, or sweeping (riding at the back) a ride at any level.  \n\n\n\nWhile a person does not need to have advanced or even intermediate riding skills to be a ride leader\, this is not a skills clinic. They can stand and coast on the pedals. They can shift gears and corner\, but it might not go as smoothly as it could — or at the right time. They are interested in rolling over taller features and riding rolling terrain without pedaling the whole time. They can ride 1-2 miles on a trail or bike path. \n\n\n\nDuring this class: Riders will learn to ride in an organized manner into and out of the trails at Rocky Point. Riders will work on balancing and improving shifting over varying terrain\, including trails and rolling terrain\, and corner with more confidence\, and more smoothly. They’ll learn to climb\, descend and ride faster; they’ll also learn slow-riding skills to have fun riding more technical trails\, including drops 6-10” high – if they want to. The wheels may leave the ground on drops\, but we aren’t jumping yet. \n\n\n\nBike: The Green Gecko’s bike has platform pedals\, two hand brakes (front and rear)\, a seat that can move up and down\, and is in good working condition. Single speeds are OK but a bike with gears will be more fun on the climbs. No coaster brakes\, worn-out tires\, or kickstands. A Gecko’s helmet fits properly\, is in good condition\, and is less than 5 years old. \n\n\n\nRequired Gear:  \n\n\n\n-A properly fitting helmet in good condition and is less than 5 years old **We will have helmets to loan!  \n\n\n\n-Water bottle and snacks \n\n\n\n-Clothing appropriate for the weather \n\n\n\n-Tools for moving the seat up and down if necessary \n\n\n\n-Pack to carry layers\, snacks\, tools and water \n\n\n\nRecommended Gear: \n\n\n\n-Full-fingered gloves \n\n\n\n-Knee and elbow protection \n\n\n\n-Eye protection \n\n\n\n-Tools and supplies to change a flat tire (with assistance!) \n\n\n\nHave questions?
