SUMMARY:Native Shrub & Wildflower Planting @ Rocky Point - 11/14
DESCRIPTION:Join NWTA at Rocky Point Trails in the Tualatin Mountain Forest while we learn to propagate native plants along the trail corridor. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWant to help the trails and build a more sustainable future for the Hop\, Seth and a Jump trail at Rocky Point? Join us for a native plant propagation event in collaboration with OSU Extension Services\, Scappoose Bay Watershed Council\, Columbia Soil & Water Conservation District\, and West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District. Come roll up your sleeves\, learn propagation best practices\, and help us plant and learn about the native species we have in the area. The goal of the planting is to frame the trail with native plants\, many propagated right on site\, to help with erosion\, water control\, and habitat protection for local birds\, pollinators and small animals. One of the most exciting parts is that we will be planting varieties that will specifically help choke out the blackberry bushes\, trail builders rejoice! Not to mention\, this is likely to be the prettiest trail in the region while in full bloom! \n\n\n\nWhat to bring:  \n\n\n\n\nWork clothes: long sleeve shirt\, long pants (no shorts)\, sturdy boots\, gloves\, eye protection\n\n\n\nJacket for changing weather and rain (be prepared)\n\n\n\nHard hat or bike helmet (mandatory)\n\n\n\nWater\n\n\n\nSnacks\n\n\n\nLunch\n\n\n\n\nWe will be propagating the following plants/shrubs/trees onsite:  \n\n\n\n\nRed Flowering Currant\n\n\n\nBlue Elderberry\n\n\n\nSword Fern\n\n\n\nVine Maple\n\n\n\nBeaked Hazelnut\n\n\n\nSalal\n\n\n\nOregon Grape\n\n\n\nThimbleberry\n\n\n\n\nWe will be spreading the following native flower and grass seeds:  \n\n\n\n\nWestern yarrow (Achillea millefolium)\n\n\n\nWestern columbine (Aquilegia formosa)\n\n\n\nAmerican wintercress (Barbarea orthoceras)\n\n\n\nLarge flowered blue-eyed mary (Collinsia grandiflora)\n\n\n\nLarge flowered collomia (Collomia grandiflora)\n\n\n\nBlue wildrye (Elymus glaucus)\n\n\n\nWestern geranium (Gernium oreganum)\n\n\n\nLargeleaf avens (Geum macrophyllum)\n\n\n\nTough leaf iris (Iris tenax)\n\n\n\nBroadleaf lupine (Lupinus polyphyllus)\n\n\n\nMiner’s lettuce (Montia linearis)\n\n\n\nShade phacelia (Phacelia nemoralis)\n\n\n\nSlender cinquefoil (Potentilla gracilis)\n\n\n\nSelf-heal (Prunella vulgaris)\n\n\n\n\nFor further questions\, please contact Trail Stewardship Director\, Nancy Stone at: nancy@nw-trail.org
