SUMMARY:Gorge 400 Work Party and Optional Campout on 5/21
DESCRIPTION:Join NWTA at the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area for its 1st work party/campout weekend in 2022. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nWorkparty Date: Saturday May 21\, 2022 / 9am-3pm \n\n\n\nCampout Dates: Friday\, May 20th – Sunday\, May 22nd. \n\n\n\nMeet at the Wyeth Campground next to the Wyeth Trailhead at 750 Herman Creek Rd. Cascade Locks\, OR 97014. \n\n\n\nWithin the project to build new trails near Cascade Locks\, we have also been asked to Rehabilitate the existing Gorge 400 trail. The project provides a unique opportunity to work on rock treads\, drainages\, a stream crossing\, and a spring.  \n\n\n\nAll ages and skill levels are welcome. \n\n\n\nBikes are not needed for the work party\, but you are welcome to bring them if you want to ride the trails afterward. You will not be within sight of your vehicle & you will want to be sure to secure your bike.  \n\n\n\nWhat to bring for the work party: \n\n\n\n* Work clothes: Light long sleeve shirt\, Long Pants (no shorts)\, Boots\, Gloves\, Eye Protection & Gloves \n\n\n\n* Jacket (be prepared) \n\n\n\n* Hard hat or bike helmet (mandatory) \n\n\n\n* Water \n\n\n\n* Snacks  \n\n\n\n* Lunch \n\n\n\n* Face Covering as recommended by the CDC (in case we can’t maintain social proper social distancing) \n\n\n\nNWTA will have tools will available\, but please bring your favorite tread tool if you have one (rakes\, McLeod\, rouge hoe\, loppers) \n\n\n\nWaiver – Once registered\, please sign the waiver HERE. \n\n\n\nIf you have questions or need to get in touch on the day of the event\, please contact Bob: at 703-424-0091 \n\n\n\nCampout details: \n\n\n\nNWTA has reserved large group sites at the Wyeth Campground for volunteers to stay at no charge. These sites can accommodate up to 18 vehicles (must pre-register with the NWTA camping option). If you are interested in camping and would like a site of your own\, feel free to reserve at https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/122940 \n\n\n\nFood will not be provided for Friday night campers \n\n\n\nAfter the work party\, NWTA will provide a cooler of beverages\, Beer from our generous sponsor\, HOPWORKS. Several BBQs will be available for use. \n\n\n\nPET (DOG) OWNERS: NWTA will have a group site within the public campground. If you bring your pet\, know that you cannot leave them unattended at the campground. Improve your cornering skills in a fun\, supportive environment. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nWhen it comes to mountain biking\, cornering is a fundamental skill that is key to making progress in our riding ability. Join NWTA Certified Instructors Allie and Nancy for an evening of skill-building\, riding\, and FUN. This NW Trail Sister’s event is open to all who identify as female and non-binary. \n\n\n\nKNOW YOUR CAPABILITIES \n\n\n\nAt an intermediate level\, you are able to confidently shift gears\, brake safely\, and navigate your bike over small rocks\, roots\, and uneven terrain. Riding for 2 hours (with breaks) is doable for you.  \n\n\n\nFor this clinic\, we will be riding uphill with roughly 700 feet of elevation gain on a paved road for about 1.5 miles and will descend an uneven trail that will require you to navigate over small rocks and roots. Please take a moment to honestly assess your current skill & fitness level to decide if this clinic/ride is for you. \n\n\n\nClass size is limited\, and pre-registration is required. This ride is open to women and non-binary riders with an Intermediate+ (Blue/Black trails) skill level. \n\n\n\nTo ensure the safety of all riders\, please honestly assess your riding ability before attending. DESCRIPTION:SHIFT is BACK! Weekend campout around a work party on Saturday\, August 20th. The deadline to register is Wednesday\, August 17. \n\n\n\n\nregister\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nWorkparty Date: Saturday\, August 20th\, 2022 / 9 am-3 pm \n\n\n\nCampout Dates: Friday\, August 19th – Sunday\, August 21st. \n\n\n\nMeet at Marble Mountain Sno Park (NF-83\, Cougar WA 98616) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCamping:  Upper Marble Mountain parking lot.   \n\n\n\nThis is dispersed camping and no camp spots are available.No water is available.  There are Vault toilets (bring toilet paper)Camping will start Thursday evening\, but official NWTA camping is Friday through Sunday\n\n\n\nDirections: \n\n\n\nI-5 North to Woodland\, WA and take Hwy 503 east towards Mt St HelensHwy 503 will turn into NF90 after Yale lakeApproximately 6-7 miles past Yale lake turn left on NF83 towards Ape CanyonMarble mountain parking lot is about 8-10 miles from NF90 on the left\n\n\n\nDinner: 6pm \n\n\n\nThe menu is pulled pork sandwich\, potato salad\, coleslaw\, and blackberry cobbler.Please bring your own utensils and plates.  We might have a dishwashing station after dinner but plan accordingly if we don’t.  \n\n\n\nFriday & Sunday Rides:  9-9:30 depending upon the heat \n\n\n\nThere will be various rides from easy (<15 miles) to difficult (>25 miles) available.  Specific ride details will be determined at ride time.  Please plan to arrive 30 minutes early. \n\n\n\nGarbage/Recycling:  We are practicing  “pack it in pack it out”.  There will be no garbage or recycling cans available.  Everyone will be responsible for their own garbage and recycling. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter a 2-year hiatus\, our weekend party around a work party is back! This year we plan to work on the beloved Ape Canyon Trail and Sheep Canyon area. We will shuttle to Oldman Pass\, connecting to McLellen Meadows and then to Falls Creek Trail\, dividing into two groups based on ability and fitness. Both groups will have the opportunity to session technical parts of the climbs and descents. There are many great snacking spots with a view. We might even stop to enjoy some of the lava tubes off the trail. Two current Board members\, Nell Stamper and Scooter Sutterer\, will be presented for re-election; and we’re beyond excited to present to our membership three additional Board members for our all-volunteer\, working Board: Chloe Hammond-Bradley\, Will Heiberg\, and Charlie Kohlmeier. Join us as well to thank Colin Marthaller and Owen Rodabaugh\, who are concluding their time serving on the NWTA Board.  We look forward to their continued volunteer work with NWTA moving forward\, and seeing them out on the trails! \nWe had an incredibly strong reception to our call for board applications\, it was amazing to see so many people wanting to serve the NWTA mountain bike community.
