Washington County Parks has received approval from the Bureau of Land Reclamation for a 1/2 mile – 1 mile re-route to restore access to the trail. We are building that section of trail. It will likely include installation of a short bridge\, one culvert\, 3+ rock sections\, 3+ climbing turns\, and potentially retaining walls. Tools will be provided; however\, if you’d like to bring additional tools\, you are welcome and encouraged to do so.\n\n\n\nEquipment needed: helmet (cycling helmets are OK)\, long pants\, sturdy\, comfortable footwear\, and good work gloves. We can help ensure you have a helmet\, if needed. Long sleeve shirts are recommended. If conditions are wet\, rain gear is recommended.\n\n\n\n\nOther Notes: \n\n\n\n\nDrinks\, snacks\, and swag will be provided at the end of this event. Please bring water and snacks to keep with you at the work site.\n\n\n\nParking passes will be provided; no parking fee is required.\n\n\n\nVolunteer waivers will be available at the work site. They will need to be signed prior to beginning work. If possible\, please sign the online waiver attached with this invitation prior to arrival.\n\n\n\nNWTA volunteer hours will be logged for you.\n\n\n\nVolunteers under age 18 will need a parent or supervising adult with them.\n\n\n\nThe nearest restrooms are at: Eagle Point Recreation Area (34)\, Elks Creek (1)\, Sain Creek Recreation Area (13)\, & C-Ramp Recreation area (14).\n\n\n\nThe nearest market is 7-Star Convenience Store (formerly Lake Stop Grocery) on Old 47\, shortly before the park entrance.\n\n\n\nIf you need documents signed proving work completed\, we will have staff available to sign them.\n\n\n\nYou’re welcome and encouraged to ride the trail after the work party; we can store bikes in a very safe area while working\, if needed!\n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please contact me: Dan Werle // (503) 719-3226 // danwerle@gmail.com\n\n\n\nThanks!

SUMMARY:DIG DAY — Tillamook - 1/10
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in the Tillamook for a fun-filled day of recreation\, stewardship\, and fun times afterward! \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCome join us in the Tillamook for a fun-filled day of recreation\, stewardship\, and fun times afterward! The scope of work for the fall and winter is still a bit TBD at this point\, but similar to years past we’ll be focusing on maintaining shared-use trails (Gales Creek\, Storey Burn\, Wilson River Trail\, Historic Hiking Loop) by removing blowdown\, pruning them back\, improving drainage\, and re-shaping the tread caused by erosion in the rugged and steep (but gorgeous) Coast Range Mountains. Weather conditions are always variable out there\, but we will reschedule if conditions warrant. \n\n\n\nA typical day starts at 8 a.m. for the completely optional ride/hike/run to get the legs warmed up\, then a quick change of clothes at 10 a.m. to get ready for the actual work. We work on the designated trail section from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.\, then usually celebrate with a warm fire\, some hot food (options for those with dietary restrictions provided)\, and a variety of provided beverages from Pelican\, Hopworks\, and others. Total hiking distance when working is less than 4 miles round-trip. \n\n\n\nTools can be provided as needed. We break into smaller crews\, each led by an experienced crew lead who can provide direction and answer questions as needed to ensure you’re having a safe\, fun\, and productive time. \n\n\n\nAs dates get closer\, the Tillamook LST (Nathan Frechen) will provide details (when and where to meet up\, what to bring\, etc). Feel free to reach out to him proactively at tillamooksf@nw-trail.org with any questions you may have in advance.

(Subject to change slightly depending on conditions.) \n\n\n\nWhat is this “training series?”: The series is a set of dig days dedicated to building skills and confidence. We have three dig days scheduled at multiple locations where Trail Sisters crew leads alongside Local Stewardship Teams will cover the technical aspects of trail building and sustainable maintenance in a fun and supportive environment. \n\n\n\nWe welcome all women and non-binary folks interested in trail building to join us! No prior digging experience is necessary. \n\n\n\nWaiver: Once registered\, please sign the waiver HERE. \n\n\n\nWhat to bring: \n\n\n\n\nWarm clothing and extra layers.\n\n\n\nRain jacket (and rain pants if you have them and the weather calls for it): It’s January in the PNW\, odds are high it’ll rain\, but that doesn’t stop us from digging!\n\n\n\nGloves (waterproof are best): It wouldn’t hurt to bring an extra pair\, too. Cold hands suck! We have extras if needed.\n\n\n\nSturdy shoes\n\n\n\nHelmet or hard hat (required)\n\n\n\nEye protection\n\n\n\nWater\n\n\n\nSnacks and lunch\n\n\n\nBike and bike gear for post-dig rips\n\n\n\nAppetite for food provided by our dear friends at River City Bicycles!\n\n\n\n\nAny necessary tools will be provided. You are not required to bring any of your own. \n\n\n\nMore specific details about the event will be emailed to those who signed up closer to the date. \n\n\n\nThese events are very popular and sell out quickly. If you are unable to attend for any reason\, please cancel your registration with AT LEAST 24 hours notice so others on the waitlist have an opportunity to come. If you are reading this and the event is sold out\, join the waitlist! A few folks will likely cancel the day before. \n\n\n\nJoin NWTA and become one of nearly 6\,000 mountain bikers stewarding trails together in NW Oregon and SW Washington. If the cost of membership creates a financial hardship\, please reach out to us\, we can help with that barrier. \n\n\n\nQuestions? Send them over to Carrie at carriej@nw-trail.org
