SUMMARY:Earth Day Clean Up and Mountain Bike Ride at Rocky Point - 4/22
DESCRIPTION:Join us to help clean up Rocky Point Rd. We will be doing trash pick-up from the lower shuttle parking lot on HWY 30 to the top shuttle gate (roughly a mile above the trailhead). This is a great opportunity to get outdoors\, meet new people\, and make a positive impact on our environment. \n\n\n\n\nRegister HERE\n\n\n\n\nMeeting Location: We will be meeting at the main entrance point for the trails at the Central Rocky Point Trailhead Parking on Rocky Point Road. \n\n\n\nAddress: 20955\, 23999 Rocky Point Rd\, Scappoose\, OR 97056 \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: Volunteers should bring work gloves\, shoes\, water\, and sunscreen (being optimistic) and your bike if you plan to ride afterwards. Please dress for the weather. \n\n\n\nWhat’s Provided: Trash bags will be provided. We encourage you to bring a bucket and work gloves to support sustainability efforts. \n\n\n\nRestrooms: A porta potty will be available at this location. \n\n\n\nParking: There is some room to park along the road downhill from the trail entrance. Please park efficiently and angle park as much as possible. Do not park in front of or near entrances or gates. \n\n\n\nTransit: Not available nearby \n\n\n\nAccessibility: This area may not be easily accessible for folks with mobility concerns. \n\n\n\nTranslation Services: There will not be a Spanish speaker present at this event. \n\n\n\nYouth Volunteers: Volunteers 17 and under must be accompanied by an authorized adult. \n\n\n\nGroups: If you are volunteering with multiple people for this event please register as a Team. DESCRIPTION:Ride season is quickly approaching! Join us for a day of trail work at Powell Butte\, getting the trails dialed for a summer of riding. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nJ﻿oin NWTA & Portland Parks as we head to Powell Butte to touch up on some trail maintenance to get everything ready for the summer. \n\n\n\nWhere to Meet \n\n\n\nEllis Street Trailhead: 5608 SE 145th Avenue\, Portland\, OR 97236 \n\n\n\nScope of Work \n\n\n\nJoin Portland Parks & Recreation staff and community volunteers in completing important trail work projects on Powell Butte. \n\n\n\nNo experience necessary! Youth participants must be at least age 14\, and all volunteers aged 14-17 must have a parent or guardian sign our youth waiver forms. \n\n\n\nWear sturdy close-toed shoes\, long pants\, and long-sleeved shirts. Bring rain gear and/or sun gear\, a hat\, a filled water bottle\, and snacks. Bring gloves if you have a pair and prefer to use your own. Instruction\, tools\, and gloves are otherwise provided. \n\n\n\nYou will be walking up to 5 miles away from the meeting location and restrooms\, so please be ready to hike. The work will entail building new trail with lots of challenging rock work. \n\n\n\nIf you got a tool (shovel\, hoe\, loppers\, handsaw\, or rock bar) you like\, feel free to bring it. Otherwise I’ll have a decent number of tools in my truck and a lot of the work we can do with hands. \n\n\n\nWhat to bring: \n\n\n\n\nHead protection (hard hat or bike helmet)\n\n\n\nWork gloves\,\n\n\n\nEye protection\n\n\n\nSturdy footwear\n\n\n\nLunch\, snacks and water\n\n\n\nWhatever clothing you need to feel comfortable in the weather +/- 10 degrees and maybe some rain.\n\n\n\n\nWhere to meet: \n\n\n\nWe’re able to park on the side of the road and then walk less than 100 yards into the woods to get to the trail.  \n\n\n\nEventbrite doesn’t do well with locations without official addresses\, so here’s a pin in Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/RFGkRgfphz66rvxc7 \n\n\n\nLook for my gold Tacoma with a green camper and the #letnwtahelp banner hanging from the tailgate. \n\n\n\nWe’ll starts congregating and socializing at 9:30. Youth participants must be at least age 14\, and all volunteers aged 14-17 must have a parent or guardian sign our youth waiver forms. \n\n\n\nWear sturdy close-toed shoes\, long pants\, and long-sleeved shirts. DESCRIPTION:This event merges trail work\, group rides\, and camping\, making for a memorable MTB social event. —Building community as we build trail \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nObjective: To build a new trail in the Columbia Gorge near Cascade Locks. When completed it will be a 15-mile trail that winds its way through an amazing forest on Forest Service land.  \n\n\n\nMeeting Location: Wyeth Campground next to the Wyeth Trailhead at 750 Herman Creek Rd. Cascade Locks\, OR 97014. \n\n\n\nAll ages and skill levels are welcome. \n\n\n\nAll MINOR Participants: Must complete the additional form & email the completed form to nathaniel.brodie@usda.gov in at least 7 days in advance of the work party: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QQ1SjWhRSHDS82_gBpR2CgqRWE0K2GUm/view?usp=sharing \n\n\n\nBikes are not necessary for the work party\, but you are welcome to bring them if you want to ride the trails afterward. If you are interested in camping and would like to rent your own site\, you can make your reservation at https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/122940 \n\n\n\nFood will not be provided for Friday night campers (BYOB & BYOF) \n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, NWTA and our generous sponsors will provide a BBQ social for our hard-working volunteers. \n\n\n\nPET OWNERS: NWTA will have a group site within the public campground. If you bring your pet\, know that you cannot leave them unattended at the campground. DESCRIPTION:The Trail Sustainability Institute presents: Trail School: Intro to Rock Work in collaboration with the US Forest Service in Cascade Locks. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nThe Trail Sustainability Institute\, in collaboration with the Forest Service invite you to a two-day field course on rock work for trails on the developing Cascade Locks Trail system. Course objectives will include an understanding of ideal rock size & shapes for rock structures; safe and sustainable quarrying and transport of rock\, including high-line systems; construction of effective rock walls from one to three tiers; installing rip rap features and other minor trail armoring. This course will focus on safety\, dry-laid walling techniques\, and hands-on learning. The lead instructor will be Nathaniel Brodie\, Trails Manager for the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area\, USFS. \n\n\n\nC﻿amping at the Wyeth Campground is available\, if you would like to embrace the entire weekend experience. There are no water or bathroom amenities\, available this time of year. Please plan accordingly for primitive car camping.  \n\n\n\nW﻿hat to bring: \n\n\n\n\nR﻿ain gear\n\n\n\nLayers of clothing\n\n\n\nW﻿aterproof/water resistant gloves (multiple pairs)\n\n\n\nH﻿ard Hat or Helmet (REQUIRED)\n\n\n\nS﻿afety Glasses (NWTA will provide or bring your own)\n\n\n\nP﻿ersonal First Aid Kit (EpiPen or any other personal needs)\n\n\n\nW﻿ater \n\n\n\nS﻿nacks\n\n\n\n\nL﻿UNCH WILL BE PROVIDED BOTH DAYS \n\n\n\nP﻿lease take a moment to sign our ever-important waiver. \n\n\n\nIt is opportunities like these that are possible because of NWTA membership dollars. Discover hidden treasures\, unearth fossils\, and learn about the rich history of this beautiful park. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re a seasoned digger or a first-timer\, our experienced leads will be there to assist you throughout the day. Grab your shovels\, buckets\, and enthusiasm\, and get ready to uncover the mysteries of Klootchy Creek! \n\n\n\nDon’t miss out on this exciting event! Mark your calendars and join us for an unforgettable day of digging and discovery at Klootchy Creek County Park! \n\n\n\n10am – 3 pm at Klootchy Creek Park \n\n\n\nTrail work will last approximately 5 hours\, wrapping up at 3:00. \n\n\n\nWhat To Bring: \n\n\n\nYour bike (optional) \n\n\n\nWork clothes: Light long sleeve shirt\, Long Pants (no shorts)\, Boots\, Gloves\, Eye Protection & Gloves \n\n\n\nJacket (be prepared) \n\n\n\nHard hat or bike helmet (mandatory) \n\n\n\nWater \n\n\n\nSnacks \n\n\n\nLunch \n\n\n\nFavorite trail tool\, McLeod or Rouge Hoe (We have tools\, but please feel free to bring your own if you are more comfortable with your own). \n\n\n\nOptional: Folding Handsaw \n\n\n\nPlease arrive 15-20 early to ensure that you are adequately checked in.
