Together\, we’ll work to repair and enhance the trails to ensure they’re safe\, sustainable\, and ready for riders again. \n\n\n\nThis restoration effort will be flexible\, as we’ll adapt our work to the unique challenges presented by the thinning project. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome—whether you’re a seasoned trail builder or new to trail work\, there’s a role for you! \n\n\n\n10am – 3pm \n\n\n\nMeet at the far end of the Hilltop Day Use Area \n\n\n\nTrail work will last approximately 5 hours\, wrapping up at 3:00. \n\n\n\nWhat To Bring: \n\n\n\nWork clothes: Long sleeve shirt\, Long Pants (no shorts)\, Boots\, Eye Protection & Gloves \n\n\n\nJacket (be prepared) \n\n\n\nHard hat or bike helmet (mandatory) \n\n\n\nWater \n\n\n\nSnacks/Lunch \n\n\n\nBike – If you would like\, bring your bike and ride back to the area where we will be working. Just like when riding\, protect your noggin.)\n\n\n\nWater\n\n\n\nSnacks\n\n\n\nOptional: Your bike\, favorite trail tool; metal rakes\, folding hand saws and loppers will be extra useful (We have tools\, but please feel free to bring your own)\n\n\n\n\nWhat we’re doing: \n\n\n\nWe will be carpooling from the main parking lot to the work site. \n\n\n\nSafety meeting starts at 9:00 a.m. at the main lot gazebo. Carpool to Rocky Point if you can. Please arrive 15-20 mins early to ensure that you are ready to roll. No experience necessary! Youth participants (under 18) welcome with adult supervision (waivers required by parent/guardian). \n\n\n\nWear sturdy close-toed shoes\, long pants\, and long-sleeved shirts. Bring rain gear and/or sun gear\, a hat\, a filled water bottle\, and snacks. Instruction\, tools and gloves otherwise provided. You will be walking up to 2 miles away from the meeting location and restrooms\, so please be ready to hike. Be sure to arrive on time\, or you may miss the group. \n\n\n\nThe tools we will be using for the event includes grubbers\, McLeod’s and shovels to armor the trail which is improve wet or muddy sections of trail. We will be using wall rock to build up a section of trail that is constantly wet. St. Helens National Monument for a day of trail work & an optional weekend of camping and group rides. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWorkparty Date: Saturday\, May 31st from 9am-3pm \n\n\n\nCampout Dates: Friday\, May 30th – Sunday\, June 1st. \n\n\n\nJoin NWTA & Growlers Gulch Racing for a work party and optional campout at Coldwater Lake at the Mt. St. Helens National Monument. \n\n\n\nDue to our strong partnership with the US Forest Service we are permitted to camp overnight (primitive) from May 30th – June 1st near the shores of Coldwater Lake. This rare opportunity is only available during this event.  \n\n\n\nPlease note that the space for campers is limited. There is also no water or dump facilites at the camp site. Help get the Loowit Tier ready for its first season open to the public! \n\n\n\nCome for one day or campout and do both. We need volunteers of all sorts: sawyers primarily\, but also swampers\, brushers\, and dirt worshipers. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED—we can find a valuable role for you. There are bathrooms at Eagle Point’s main parking area \n\n\n\nTools needed (many will be provided; attendees are welcome to bring their own) \n\n\n\n\nMcLeods\n\n\n\nSpade/Digging shovels\n\n\n\nFlat shovels\n\n\n\nBuckets\n\n\n\nGarden rakes\n\n\n\nFolding saws\n\n\n\nGrub hoes or Rogue hoes\n\n\n\n\nGear Suggestions \n\n\n\n\nChange of clothing (for the ride home)\n\n\n\nWater & snacks (while at the work locations)\n\n\n\nRain gear\, depending upon the weather\n\n\n\nLong pants\n\n\n\nLong-sleeve shirt\n\n\n\nSturdy boots or other protective footwear\n\n\n\nSturdy gloves\n\n\n\nEye protection\n\n\n\nHelmet (mandatory for this event – cycling helmets are okay to use)\n\n\n\n\nWill we be riding after? \n\n\n\nNot planned; however\, if weather permits\, people are encouraged to do so! \n\n\n\nNotes \n\n\n\n\nParking passes will be provided for you at the meeting location; attendees do not need to purchase park passes.\n\n\n\nPeople with AT&T cellular service have good reception around the lake; others frequently do not.\n\n\n\nThis will be a long day. You’re welcome to leave early if necessary.\n\n\n\nBring a camping chair\, stay and visit at the end!\n\n\n\nLake Stop Grocery is located on SW Old 47\, roughly 4 miles from the Eagle Point Recreation Area; they have lots of snacks\, beverages\, and other supplies.
