DESCRIPTION:The Trail Sustainability Institute presents: Trail School: Intro to Rock Work in collaboration with the US Forest Service in Cascade Locks. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nThe Trail Sustainability Institute\, in collaboration with the Forest Service invite you to a two-day field course on rock work for trails on the developing Cascade Locks Trail system. Course objectives will include an understanding of ideal rock size & shapes for rock structures; safe and sustainable quarrying and transport of rock\, including high-line systems; construction of effective rock walls from one to three tiers; installing rip rap features and other minor trail armoring. This course will focus on safety\, dry-laid walling techniques\, and hands-on learning. The lead instructor will be Nathaniel Brodie\, Trails Manager for the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area\, USFS. \n\n\n\nCamping at the Wyeth Campground is available\, if you would like to embrace the entire weekend experience. There are no water or bathroom amenities\, available this time of year. Please plan accordingly for primitive car camping.  \n\n\n\nWhat to bring: \n\n\n\n\nRain gear\n\n\n\nLayers of clothing\n\n\n\nWaterproof/water resistant gloves (multiple pairs)\n\n\n\nHard Hat or Helmet (REQUIRED)\n\n\n\nSafety Glasses (NWTA will provide or bring your own)\n\n\n\nPersonal First Aid Kit (EpiPen or any other personal needs)\n\n\n\nWater \n\n\n\nSnacks\n\n\n\n\nLUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED BOTH DAYS \n\n\n\nPlease take a moment to sign our ever-important waiver. \n\n\n\nIt is opportunities like these that are possible because of NWTA membership dollars. DESCRIPTION:NWTA’s Trail Sustainability Institute will be hosting Crew Leader Training at Stub Stewart State Park. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nCrew Leaders are essential to the success of trail building work parties. These individuals provide guidance\, vision and share their knowledge with their crew of trail builders. If you are a seasoned Trail Steward who is interested in expanding your skills and tapping into becoming a leader\, this training is for you! \n\n\n\nNorthwest Trail Alliance’s Trail Sustainability Institute’s goal is to foster a culture of land stewardship within the mountain bike community. By teaching people how to build sustainable trails\, and by training trail builders to lead crews of trail stewards\, we are raising the level of our own stewardship\, and increasing our capacity to build and maintain quality trails. \n\n\n\nThe meeting will be held at Stub Stewart State Park in the Mountain Dale Cabin Village Meeting Hall. Drive past the Hilltop Day-Use Area (although carpooling from Hilltop may be necessary) to the Cabin Village.  \n\n\n\nWhat to wear: \n\n\n\nHalf of this training is indoors (morning) while the second half is outdoors. Dress for the elements. \n\n\n\n– Work clothes: Long sleeve shirt\, Long Pants (no shorts)\, Boots\, Gloves\, Eye Protection & Gloves.  \n\n\n\n– Jacket (be prepared) \n\n\n\n– Hard hat or bike helmet (mandatory) \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\n\n\n– Water \n\n\n\n– Snacks \n\n\n\n– Lunch \n\n\n\nSome morning and afternoon snacks as well as refreshments will be provided but please bring your own lunch. \n\n\n\nPlease sign the waiver  HERE \n\n\n\nIt is opportunities like these that are possible because of NWTA membership dollars. DESCRIPTION:Join us and our friends at Portland Parks & Recreation as we work on improving the Doug Fir trail. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\nJoin NWTA & Portland Parks as we head to Powell Butte to get the trails repaired for the winter season. \n\n\n\nWhere to Meet \n\n\n\nPowell Butte Visitors Center – 16160 SE Powell Blvd. \n\n\n\nScope of Work \n\n\n\nWe will be working on the Doug Fir trail. \n\n\n\nNo experience necessary! Youth participants must be at least age 14\, and all volunteers aged 14-17 must have a parent or guardian sign our youth waiver forms. \n\n\n\nWear sturdy\, close-toed shoes\, long pants\, and long-sleeved shirts. Bring rain gear and/or sun gear\, a hat\, a filled water bottle\, and snacks. Bring gloves if you have a pair and prefer to use your own. Instruction\, tools\, and gloves are otherwise provided. \n\n\n\nYou will walk up to 5 miles from the meeting location and restrooms\, so please be ready to hike. Join the Trail Sisters as we get after some trail updates and maintenance on our beloved Fanny’s Yer Aunt trail (that btw\, was designed and built by women). No experience is required. Trail Sisters are women and non-binary folks who love to support each other both on and off the trail. \n\n\n\nThe dig will run from 9:30 am to 1 pm with lunch (provided) to follow. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to ensure that you are adequately checked in. If you don’t have a day pass\, you will need to purchase one for $5 at the kiosk near the restrooms. \n\n\n\nTrail work will last approximately 4 hours\, wrapping up at 2:00. Get your hands dirty and make a difference in our community! On Saturday\, December 16\, 2023\, starting at 09:00 AM (Pacific Standard Time)\, we’ll gather at Gateway Green Bike Park in Portland\, OR. Meet us near the pump track. \n\n\n\nAt this exciting event\, families will have the opportunity to work together with us and clear the trails at the park of fallen leaves. It’s a fantastic chance to bond with your loved ones while contributing to the preservation of the park. \n\n\n\nNo prior experience is required – just bring your enthusiasm and a positive attitude! We’ll provide some tools and equipment\, but if you have extra rakes or rakes for the kids feel free to bring those. Don’t forget to wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes\, as we’ll be working outdoors. \n\n\n\nGateway Green Family Maintenance Day is a fantastic way to spend quality time with your family\, meet new people\, and give back to the community. This in-person event is perfect for nature enthusiasts\, families\, and anyone who loves adventure. Discover hidden treasures\, unearth fossils\, and learn about the rich history of this beautiful park. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re a seasoned digger or a first-timer\, our experienced leads will be there to assist you throughout the day. Grab your shovels\, buckets\, and enthusiasm\, and get ready to uncover the mysteries of Klootchy Creek! \n\n\n\nDon’t miss out on this exciting event! Mark your calendars and join us for an unforgettable day of digging and discovery at Klootchy Creek County Park! \n\n\n\n10am – 3 pm at Klootchy Creek Park \n\n\n\nTrail work will last approximately 5 hours\, wrapping up at 3:00. \n\n\n\nWhat To Bring: \n\n\n\nYour bike (optional) \n\n\n\nWork clothes: Light long sleeve shirt\, Long Pants (no shorts)\, Boots\, Gloves\, Eye Protection & Gloves \n\n\n\nJacket (be prepared) \n\n\n\nHard hat or bike helmet (mandatory) \n\n\n\nWater \n\n\n\nSnacks \n\n\n\nLunch \n\n\n\nFavorite trail tool\, McLeod or Rouge Hoe (We have tools\, but please feel free to bring your own if you are more comfortable with your own). \n\n\n\nOptional: Folding Handsaw \n\n\n\nSafety meeting promptly starts at 9 am. Please arrive 15-20 early to ensure that you are adequately checked in.
