SUMMARY:DIG DAY — Tillamook - 11/15
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in the Tillamook for a fun-filled day of recreation\, stewardship\, and fun times afterward! \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCome join us in the Tillamook for a fun-filled day of recreation\, stewardship\, and fun times afterward! The scope of work for the fall and winter is still a bit TBD at this point\, but similar to years past we’ll be focusing on maintaining shared-use trails (Gales Creek\, Storey Burn\, Wilson River Trail\, Historic Hiking Loop) by removing blowdown\, pruning them back\, improving drainage\, and re-shaping the tread caused by erosion in the rugged and steep (but gorgeous) Coast Range Mountains. Weather conditions are always variable out there\, but we will reschedule if conditions warrant. \n\n\n\nA typical day starts at 8 a.m. for the completely optional ride/hike/run to get the legs warmed up\, then a quick change of clothes at 10 a.m. to get ready for the actual work. We work on the designated trail section from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.\, then usually celebrate with a warm fire\, some hot food (options for those with dietary restrictions provided)\, and a variety of provided beverages from Pelican\, Hopworks\, and others. Total hiking distance when working is less than 4 miles round-trip. \n\n\n\nTools can be provided as needed. We break into smaller crews\, each led by an experienced crew lead who can provide direction and answer questions as needed to ensure you’re having a safe\, fun\, and productive time. \n\n\n\nAs dates get closer\, the Tillamook LST (Nathan Frechen) will provide details (when and where to meet up\, what to bring\, etc). Feel free to reach out to him proactively at tillamooksf@nw-trail.org with any questions you may have in advance.

SUMMARY:Trail Sisters x TSI Trail Building Training Series at Stub Stewart - 11/2
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first installment of the NW Trail Sister’s Trail Building Training Series at Stub Stewart! \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJoin us at Stub Stewart for the first installment of the NW Trail Sisters Training Series where we will be learning all about locating new lines and flagging! \n\n\n\nWhat are we doing?: The day will involve dirt-lip forming and berm building\, including some rake-and-ride style trail forming. \n\n\n\nThere will be opportunities for looking at a hillside and choosing how to carve the line in for a new trail. This training will provide a fantastic opportunity for Trail Sisters to gain hands-on experience in building trails from scratch. \n\n\n\nWhat is this “training series?”: The series is a set of dig days dedicated to building skills and confidence. We have three dig days scheduled (this one in November\, in December at Gateway Green\, and in January at Rocky Point; announcements upcoming) at multiple locations where Trail Sisters crew leads alongside Local Stewardship Teams will cover the technical aspects of trail building and sustainable maintenance in a fun and supportive environment. \n\n\n\nWe welcome all women and non-binary folks interested in trail building to join us! No prior digging experience is necessary. \n\n\n\nWaiver: Once registered\, please sign the waiver HERE. \n\n\n\nWhat to bring: \n\n\n\n\nWarm clothing and extra layers.\n\n\n\nRain jacket (and rain pants if you have them and the weather calls for it): It’s November in the PNW\, odds are high it’ll rain\, but that doesn’t stop us from digging!\n\n\n\nGloves (waterproof are best): It wouldn’t hurt to bring an extra pair\, too. Cold hands suck! We have extras if needed.\n\n\n\nSturdy shoes\n\n\n\nHelmet or hard hat (required)\n\n\n\nEye protection\n\n\n\nWater\n\n\n\nSnacks and lunch\n\n\n\nBike and bike gear if you would like to bike into the skills area (vs carpool)\, or for post-dig rips\n\n\n\n\nAny necessary tools will be provided. You are not required to bring any of your own. \n\n\n\nNote that Stub Stewart requires a pass to park that can be purchased on site (where we’re meeting at the Hilltop Day Use Area). \n\n\n\nThese events are very popular and sell out quickly. If you are unable to attend for any reason\, please cancel your registration with AT LEAST 24 hours notice so others on the waitlist have an opportunity to come. \n\n\n\nJoin NWTA and become one of nearly 6\,000 mountain bikers stewarding trails together in NW Oregon and SW Washington. If the cost of membership creates a financial hardship\, please reach out to us\, we can help with that barrier. \n\n\n\nQuestions? Send them over to Carrie at carriej@nw-trail.org

SUMMARY:NWTA x Cyclepath West - Beginner MTB Ride in Forest Park - 10/18
DESCRIPTION:Let’s kick off the weekend with a fun beginner mountain bike ride in Forest Park\, hosted by NWTA and Cyclepath West – see you there! \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCurious about mountain biking? Eager to dip your toes into the world of off-road cycling? Join Northwest Trail Alliance and Cyclepath West for a beginner-oriented ride through Portland’s Forest Park. \n\n\n\nThe ride: Cyclepath will provide a shuttle to the top of the Leif Erikson trail. The group will ride back to the shop on Thurman Street along Leif Erikson\, with an optional off-road loop in the middle. Leif Erikson is a double-track gravel roadbed open to bikes but not cars. \n\n\n\n\nOption #1: Leif Erikson from top to bottom (11.5 miles\, rolling descent)\n\n\n\nOption #2: Leif Erikson to Saltzman Rd. to Firelane 5 to Leif Erikson down to lower trailhead (14.5 miles\, rolling decent with a steep up/down on the side loop)\n\n\n\n\nWho this is for: Really\, anyone! The ride will be designed with beginners in mind. You don’t need to know the lingo and you don’t need any off-road experience. This is a great place to see what the off-road hype is all about and make some friends all while enjoying a pleasant\, light ride. \n\n\n\nThe gear: Please come prepared with an off-road ready bike in safe\, working condition. This means the tires are a little wider\, ideally you’ve got some gears\, and suspension (shocks) are useful but not required. If you need to borrow a bike\, connect with Eric (erico@nw-trail.org). Other gear reccomendations include helmet\, water bottle\, snacks\, fanny pack or bike bag\, gloves\, and weather-specific clothing that can get sweaty. \n\n\n\nThe plan: Cyclepath West is excited to host us in their new space on NW Thurman Street. Arrive by 9:00 to go over the plan\, and we’ll be out the door at 9:15. Afterward\, join us for a hang session including light snacks and good company. \n\n\n\nRSVP: This event is free but space is limited\, so please promptly cancel if it turns out that you cannot attend so we can make sure someone else can grab your spot.
