DESCRIPTION:Join Cyclepath on their new trail at Rocky Point. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhen & where:– Meet at 9:30am at the Rocky Point mid lot near the gazebo (please carpool if possible!)– We will caravan in from the mid gate. The goal is as few cars as possible past the gate\, so we will ask people to be willing to carpool from the mid lot in or if you have a car that has extra seats feel free to fill them up with other volunteers. You’re welcome to pedal in but keep in mind we are working in the far south area of Rocky and it takes some time to pedal over.– Our goal is to be into the work zone\, with our safety meeting/trail goals meeting done by 10am and ready to work.– We will work until 1pm at which point we will caravan out of the work zone and back to the gazebo for lunch\, beers and N/A refreshments.– After lunch if the weather is good and people are motivated we will be riding\, so feel free to bring your bike and get out on a group ride! \n\n\n\nWhat we’ll be doing:– We will be focusing on the lower portion of the new Cyclepath line dubbed “Ernie’s Journey”. This trail starts in the farther south zone past Runaway Return\, running down a ridge line before turning and crossing a creek to reconnect to the lower portion of Runaway Return. This trail will be an important connector for other trails built in the south area this winter\, as well as a selection of trails in the deep south zone of Rocky point that will be accessible from Skyline.– This first work party will primarily focus on clearing and benching the lower section of trail that connects into Runaway Return. All of the large debris has been cleared and we need to focus on creating a well benched and packed trail down to the creek crossing.– We will hike in/out roughly a half mile to the work zone from the road.– Whether this is your first dig day or you’re a well seasoned trail digger you are more than welcome to come out and dig. We are happy to assist and demonstrate proper digging techniques. \n\n\n\nWhat to bring:– PPE: safety glasses\, work gloves (bike gloves will work but aren’t the best for digging)\, hardhat or helmet\, long pants and hiking/biking shoes with decent grip. We will be working rain or shine so keep in mind to bring waterproof/warm clothing.– Tools: we will be providing all needed tools. If you have a favorite tool feel free to bring it but remember you will be responsible for getting it in and out of the work zone.– Water/snacks: we will have water and snacks available\, but it will be up to you to carry it into and out of the work zone. Bring a pack if desired for anything you want to have with you. \n\n\n\nWeather:– We will be working rain or shine\, please keep an eye on the forecast and be prepared for the elements. Bring along a change of clothes\, we will have a gas fire pit back at the gazebo to warm up and some warm food to reward those who came out and moved dirt. \n\n\n\nBathroom:–There is a bathroom at the mid lot trailhead but not in the zone we will be working in. Please plan accordingly. \n\n\n\nFood/drink:– We will have warm food available at the end of the dig session. There will be vegan/gluten free options available\, if you have specific dietary restrictions please reach out ahead of time and we will try to accommodate. \n\n\n\nPost dig ride:– If the weather is in our favor we will be planning to do a ride after lunch around 2pm. Feel free to bring your bike and gear and come out for a pedal with us!– We will likely ride for a couple hours on the south side trails\, starting from the mid lot and returning to the mid lot. \n\n\n\nRaffle/giveaway:– We will be having between 3-5 dig days on the Cyclepath line this winter to get it ready to open in the spring.– Our winter dig series will culminate with a trail opening party and raffle giveaway. For each dig party attended you will earn one raffle ticket which will enter you into a drawing for many awesome prizes from Pivot\, Transition\, Rocky Mountain\, Specialized\, and more.– * Do not have to be in attendance at the trail opening party to win the grand prize  \n\n\n\nMisc:–If you’re planning to bring your bike to ride after\, either plan on driving into the zone or having a way to secure it to your car/inside your car while we’re digging. There will be ride-arounds all the way down to this section and anyone who is comfortable on steeper terrain will enjoy this trail. The lower section will focus less on advanced features and is intended to flow more with the natural terrain\, ending just up the road from the switchblade ending. \n\n\n\nWhat is the timeframe for the day? \n\n\n\n9 a.m. – 2 p.m. \n\n\n\nWhat is the scope of work for the day? \n\n\n\nWe will carpool from the Rocky Point main lot and head down toward the end of Switchblade and next to the gravel pit. The trail is very accessible from the fire road. We will hike in to finish benching the line\, get creative with the terrain\, remove dead limbs from standing trees\, and complete the exit to the road. The trail has been raked and flagged\, we just need to get down to the soil and build some support in the corners. \n\n\n\nWe will have snacks for everyone. If we get a big enough group we will have warm chili and beverages to reward your hard work. No experience necessary! Youth participants (under 18) welcome with adult supervision (waivers required by parent/guardian). \n\n\n\nWear sturdy close-toed shoes\, long pants\, and long-sleeved shirts. Bring rain gear and/or sun gear\, a hat\, a filled water bottle\, and snacks. Instruction\, tools and gloves otherwise provided. You will be walking up to 2 miles away from the meeting location and restrooms\, so please be ready to hike. Be sure to arrive on time\, or you may miss the group. \n\n\n\nThe tools we will be using for the event includes grubbers\, McLeod’s and shovels to armor the trail which is improve wet or muddy sections of trail. We will be using wall rock to build up a section of trail that is constantly wet. On Saturday\, April 19th we will be picking up the trash alongside Rocky Point Rd in Scappoose. Our objective will be to remove trash from the roadside that we bike on\, be good neighbors to those who share this area with us\, and be better stewards of our planet. \n\n\n\nWhen: Saturday\, April 19th from 9:30 to 1:00 \n\n\n\nWhere: Rocky Point Central Trailhead (45.696324\, -122.888672) We will be meeting at the kiosk at the main trail head on the south side. Have yourself and gear ready to go by 9:30. We recommend showing up early to ensure we respect each other’s time. \n\n\n\nWho: You! Our NWTA community is invited to join us in giving back to our planet. \n\n\n\nWhat (to bring): Bright clothes! We will be roadside\, make sure you are highly visible. Gloves and sturdy shoes. Bring plenty of snacks and water. Garbage bags will be provided. \n\n\n\nWhy: It is important to NWTA to be good stewards of our environment and the places where we recreate. DESCRIPTION:Ever wanted to help support NWTA’s group rides? Interested in building your leadership skills out on the trails? Join us! \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHave you ever volunteered to lead a group ride and found yourself in over your head?  \n\n\n\nUnsure how to manage multiple skill levels and puzzled by what to do when riders go different paces?  \n\n\n\nHave you wanted to sweep a mountain bike race\, but wished you had more background going into it?  \n\n\n\nEver wanted to help with a group ride and wondered if you’re a “good enough” rider?  \n\n\n\nNWTA’s Ride Leader Training helps prepare you to confidently lead and sweep group rides–like Good GRVL! or Good Dirt! with River City Bicycles–and teaches you to anticipate the types of things that happen when folks ride in groups. \n\n\n\nThis class is for anyone who wants to share their love for the trails with others and is looking to gain experience to lead or sweep a ride. This class is also a great intro for those interested in becoming a certified Ride Leader through the Bike Instructor Certification Program (Visit https://icp.bike/ride-leader/ for more information.) \n\n\n\n During this class we will help prepare you to host a ride as a volunteer ride leader or sweep rider (who picks up the rear and troubleshoots problems). We’ll cover basic preparation\, how to plan your ride\, important considerations for the day\, and how to assess whether your riders are up for the trail you have in mind. \n\n\n\n You will also learn how to accurately describe the trail\, how to pace your group\, and communication expectations for the ride. We will discuss the difference between a skills instructor and a ride leader\, review important safety considerations\, and practice skills to help you monitor your riders\, as well as what to do if something unexpected happens along the way! \n\n\n\n Rider Experience: beginner to advanced! You don’t have to be an advanced or even intermediate to lead a ride! \n\n\n\nBike: For this class\, you may bring a mountain bike\, hybrid or e-bike in good working condition with tires suitable for dirt trails. No kickstands or street/smooth tires. Flat pedals are recommended but not required. Fenders are OK as long as they don’t make noise or interfere with the seat\, because we may move the seat up and down for some of the skills.  \n\n\n\n Required Gear: \n\n\n\n-A properly fitting helmet in good condition and is less than 5 years old. \n\n\n\n-Water bottle and snacks \n\n\n\n-Clothing appropriate for the weather \n\n\n\n-Tools for moving the seat up and down if necessary \n\n\n\n-Pack to carry layers\, snacks\, tools and water \n\n\n\n Recommended Gear: \n\n\n\n-Full-fingered gloves \n\n\n\n-Knee and elbow protection \n\n\n\n-Eye protection \n\n\n\n-Tools and supplies to change a flat tire \n\n\n\nA note on cost and volunteer commitment: NWTA is offering this training to our members free of charge\, with the expectation that participants will seek out at least two opportunities to lead or sweep NWTA social rides in the 2025 riding season. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact Eric Oliver at erico@nw-trail.org

Mark your calendars and join us for an unforgettable day of digging and discovery at Klootchy Creek County Park! \n\n\n\n10am – 2pm at Klootchy Creek Park \n\n\n\nTrail work will last approximately 5 hours\, wrapping up at 3:00. \n\n\n\nWhat To Bring: \n\n\n\nYour bike (optional) \n\n\n\nWork clothes: Light long sleeve shirt\, Long Pants (no shorts)\, Boots\, Gloves\, Eye Protection & Gloves \n\n\n\nJacket (be prepared) \n\n\n\nHard hat or bike helmet (mandatory) \n\n\n\nWater \n\n\n\nSnacks \n\n\n\nLunch \n\n\n\nFavorite trail tool\, McLeod or Rouge Hoe (We have tools\, but please feel free to bring your own if you are more comfortable with your own). \n\n\n\nOptional: Folding Handsaw \n\n\n\nSafety meeting promptly starts at 9 am. Please arrive 15-20 early to ensure that you are adequately checked in.
