SUMMARY:DIG DAY — Tillamook - 11/15
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in the Tillamook for a fun-filled day of recreation\, stewardship\, and fun times afterward! \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCome join us in the Tillamook for a fun-filled day of recreation\, stewardship\, and fun times afterward! The scope of work for the fall and winter is still a bit TBD at this point\, but similar to years past we’ll be focusing on maintaining shared-use trails (Gales Creek\, Storey Burn\, Wilson River Trail\, Historic Hiking Loop) by removing blowdown\, pruning them back\, improving drainage\, and re-shaping the tread caused by erosion in the rugged and steep (but gorgeous) Coast Range Mountains. Weather conditions are always variable out there\, but we will reschedule if conditions warrant. \n\n\n\nA typical day starts at 8 a.m. for the completely optional ride/hike/run to get the legs warmed up\, then a quick change of clothes at 10 a.m. to get ready for the actual work. We work on the designated trail section from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.\, then usually celebrate with a warm fire\, some hot food (options for those with dietary restrictions provided)\, and a variety of provided beverages from Pelican\, Hopworks\, and others. Total hiking distance when working is less than 4 miles round-trip. \n\n\n\nTools can be provided as needed. We break into smaller crews\, each led by an experienced crew lead who can provide direction and answer questions as needed to ensure you’re having a safe\, fun\, and productive time. \n\n\n\nAs dates get closer\, the Tillamook LST (Nathan Frechen) will provide details (when and where to meet up\, what to bring\, etc). Feel free to reach out to him proactively at tillamooksf@nw-trail.org with any questions you may have in advance.

SUMMARY:Trail Sisters Black Friday Forest Park Ride - 11/28
DESCRIPTION:Join NW Trail Sisters for an intermediate-paced ride through Forest Park. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJoin Trail Sisters for an intermediate-level ride through Forest Park the morning after Thanksgiving! \n\n\n\nThis ride is open to women; cis\, trans\, nonbinary. \n\n\n\nMeet: \n\n\n\nAt Cyclepath West at 10 a.m. and roll out by 10:30 a.m. (If you drive\, please don’t park in the Cyclepath lot.) \n\n\n\nBring: \n\n\n\nA ready-to-roll gravel/cyclocross bike with knobby 35c/40c tires for maximum fun\, but hardtail mountain bikes are also great for this terrain. Full suspension mountain bikes might be a bit heavy\, but bring what ya got! Please do any bike-maintenance checks prior to arriving (lube chain\, top up on sealant\, pump up tires\, check brakes\, tighten bolts\, test shifting). \n\n\n\nAlso\, bring the standard stuff to keep you safe and comfy: helmet\, gloves\, layers\, fenders\, water\, snacks\, clear-lens glasses\, extra tube\, pump\, multi-tool. \n\n\n\nRide: \n\n\n\nAbout 1\,400 ft of climbing over about 16 miles. This is a no-drop ride but there may be groups that split up a little depending on who’s feeling peppy and who’s feeling chill 🙂 We will always regroup at natural stopping points. \n\n\n\nThis is an intermediate-fitness ride\, so please assess your ability level honestly. If you have not ridden a bike uphill recently\, you may struggle to have a good time on this ride.  \n\n\n\nThe route will also involve a short section of downhill singletrack (Firelane 5) that requires intermediate-level bike handling skills. \n\n\n\nRoute on Ride With GPS: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49006426 \n\n\n\nSocialize: \n\n\n\nOptional (but highly encouraged) post-ride hang sesh at The Dragonfly Coffee House. Coffee\, lunch things\, and pastries abound 🙂 \n\n\n\nSee ya there. \n\n\n\nAn NWTA membership is not required to join this ride. But if you would like to become a member\, or donate to the organization that helps maintain Firelane 5\, you can do so on the NWTA website: https://nw-trail.org/join/ \n\n\n\nPlease contact carriej@nw-trail.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:DIG DAY — Tillamook - 12/13
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in the Tillamook for a fun-filled day of recreation\, stewardship\, and fun times afterward! \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe scope of work for the fall and winter is still a bit TBD at this point\, but similar to years past we’ll be focusing on maintaining shared-use trails (Gales Creek\, Storey Burn\, Wilson River Trail\, Historic Hiking Loop) by removing blowdown\, pruning them back\, improving drainage\, and re-shaping the tread caused by erosion in the rugged and steep (but gorgeous) Coast Range Mountains.

Washington County Parks has received approval from the Bureau of Land Reclamation for a 1/2 mile – 1 mile re-route to restore access to the trail. We are re-building that section of trail. It will likely include installation of a short bridge\, one culvert\, probably 3+ rock sections\, 3+ climbing turns\, and potentially more retaining walls. For the December 20 work party\, we’re hoping to continue construction of the new section – and potentially one or more of the planned features.\n\n\n\nEquipment we will be using will include\, but not be limited to: rakes\, McLeods\, Pulaskis\, hoes\, various shovels\, chainsaws\, hand saws\, loppers\, rakes\, wheelbarrows\, buckets\, brains\, arms\, hands\, backs\, and legs! Tools will be provided; however\, if you’d like to bring additional tools\, you are welcome and encouraged to do so.\n\n\n\nEquipment needed: helmet (cycling helmets are OK)\, long pants\, good work gloves; we can help ensure you have a helmet\, if needed. Long sleeve shirts are recommended. If conditions are wet\, rain gear and sturdy boots are recommended.\n\n\n\n\nOther Notes: \n\n\n\n\nDrinks\, snacks\, and swag will be provided.\n\n\n\nParking passes will be provided; no parking fee is required.\n\n\n\nVolunteer waivers will be available at the work site. They will need to be signed prior to beginning work. If possible\, please sign the online waiver attached with this invitation prior to arrival.\n\n\n\nNWTA volunteer hours will be logged for you.\n\n\n\nVolunteers under age 18 will need a parent or supervising adult with them.\n\n\n\nThe nearest restrooms are at: Eagle Point Recreation Area (34)\, Elks Creek (1)\, Sain Creek Recreation Area (13)\, & C-Ramp Recreation area (14).\n\n\n\nThe nearest market is 7-Star Convenience Store (formerly Lake Stop Grocery) on Old 47\, shortly before the park entrance.\n\n\n\nIf you need documents signed proving work completed\, we will have staff available to sign them.\n\n\n\nYou’re welcome and encouraged to ride the trail after the work party; we can store bikes in a very safe area while working\, if needed!\n\n\n\nSpecial thanks to Work Sharp for their sponsorship of the event. They make great sharpening supplies for trail tools and beyond. More information about them can be found here: https://worksharptools.com/\n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please contact me: Dan Werle // (503) 719-3226 // danwerle@gmail.com\n\n\n\nThanks.
