SUMMARY:Coldwater Lake Campout and Trail Work Party - 6/5-7
DESCRIPTION:Join NWTA for a work party and optional campout at Coldwater Lake in the Mt. St. Helens National Monument. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDue to our strong partnership with the US Forest Service we are permitted to camp overnight (primitive) from June 5th – June 7th near the shores of Coldwater Lake. This rare opportunity is only available during this event. \n\n\n\nPlease note that the space for campers is limited. There is also no water or dump facilites at the camp site. Restrooms will be available for camper’s use just a short walk from camp. \n\n\n\nInformation about Coldwater Lake: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/giffordpinchot/recarea/?recid=40398 \n\n\n\nAll ages and skill levels are welcome. \n\n\n\nWhat to bring for the work party: \n\n\n\n* Work clothes: Light long sleeve shirt\, Long Pants (no shorts)\, Boots\, Gloves\, Eye Protection & Gloves \n\n\n\n* Jacket (be prepared) \n\n\n\n* Hard hat or bike helmet (mandatory) \n\n\n\n* Water \n\n\n\n* Snacks \n\n\n\n* Lunch \n\n\n\nPlease bring your favorite tread tool if you have one (rakes\, McLeod\, rouge hoe\, loppers)\, otherwise a tool will be provided for you. \n\n\n\nFood will not be provided for Friday night campers \n\n\n\nAfter the work party\, NWTA will host an early dinner for all the volunteers. \n\n\n\nPET (DOG) OWNERS: If you bring your pet\, know that you cannot leave them unattended at the campsite. DESCRIPTION:With the start of summer\, we plan to begin brushing as much of the trail as possible. \n\n\n\n\nregister here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nEvent sponsors: \n\n\n\n\nNorthwest Trail Alliance: https://nw-trail.org/\n\n\n\nWashington County Parks: https://washcoparks.org/\n\n\n\n\nPlanned agenda: \n\n\n\n\n9:00 – 9:15: meet at Eagle Point (34) overflow parking area\, check in\, welcome\, safety talk\, and work overview\n\n\n\n9:15 – 9:30: gather tools\, carpool and caravan to location of work \n\n\n\n9:30 – 9:45: review work plans\n\n\n\n9:45 – 12:00: trail work\n\n\n\n12:00 – 12:15: break\n\n\n\n12:15-2:30: trail work\n\n\n\n2:30 – 2:45: walk back to worksite trailhead(s)\n\n\n\n2:45 – 3:00 PM: depart area\n\n\n\n\nWork notes: \n\n\n\n\nWe plan to begin brushing out as much of the loop trail as possible. \n\n\n\nEquipment we will be using will include\, but not be limited to: brush cutters\, trimmers\, rakes\, McLeods\, Pulaskis\, hoes\, shovels\, chainsaws\, hand saws\, loppers\, wheelbarrows\, buckets\, and others. Tools will be provided; however\, if you’d like to bring additional tools\, you are welcome and encouraged to do so.\n\n\n\nEquipment needed: helmet (cycling helmets are OK)\, long pants\, sturdy\, comfortable footwear\, and good work gloves. We can help ensure you have a helmet\, if needed. Long sleeve shirts are recommended. If conditions are wet\, rain gear is recommended.\n\n\n\n\nOther Notes: \n\n\n\n\nDrinks\, snacks\, and swag will not be provided at the end of this event. Please bring water and snacks to keep with you at the work site.\n\n\n\nParking passes will be provided; no parking fee is required.\n\n\n\nVolunteer waivers will be available at the work site. They will need to be signed prior to beginning work. If possible\, please sign the online waiver attached with this invitation prior to arrival.\n\n\n\nNWTA volunteer hours will be logged for you.\n\n\n\nVolunteers under age 18 will need a parent or supervising adult with them.\n\n\n\nThe nearest restrooms are at: Eagle Point Recreation Area (34)\, Elks Creek (1)\, Sain Creek Recreation Area (13)\, & C-Ramp Recreation area (14).\n\n\n\nThe nearest market is 7-Star Convenience Store (formerly Lake Stop Grocery) on Old 47\, shortly before the park entrance.\n\n\n\nIf you need documents signed proving work completed\, we will have staff available to sign them.\n\n\n\nYou’re welcome and encouraged to ride the trail after the work party; we can store bikes in a very safe area while working\, if needed!\n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please contact me: Dan Werle // (503) 719-3226 // danwerle@gmail.com\n\n\n\nThanks!
