9am – 3pm at Eagle Point Recreation area

Look for large Northwest Trail Alliance tent
The area is roughly 1.5 miles northwest of the park’s main entrance on SW Scoggins Valley Road. There are bathrooms at Eagle Point’s main parking area
Time: 9 AM – 3 PM
9:00 – 9:15: introduction, safety talk, and work plan
9:15 – 9:30: walk to work site
9:30 – 2:30: work
2:30 – 2:45: return to meeting location
2:45 – 3:00 PM: treats, drinks, debrief, and swag raffle
Scope of work:
A sideslope on the trail washed out several months ago. Washington County Parks receive permission for a re-route for the area.
We are hoping to finish work started earlier in the fall.
We will be building a trail on a steep sideslope. The trail section includes
- new full-bench tread
- two switchbacks
- one new berm
- three crib walls
- rolling grade dips
Our goals for the day
- complete the switchbacks
- finish building the final crib wall
- add gravel to the tread
- establish the new tread outslope
- re-naturalize the outsloped tread
- potentially brush out the closed trail section between Cedar Grove (32) and Woodpecker (33)
Tools needed (many will be provided; attendees are welcome to bring their own)
- McLeods
- Fire shovels
- Flat shovels
- Buckets
- Wheelbarrows
- Garden rakes
- Folding saws
- Grub hoes or Rogue hoes
Gear Suggestions
- Change of clothing (for the ride home)
- Water & snacks (while at the work locations)
- Rain gear, depending upon the weather
- Long pants
- Long-sleeve shirt
- Sturdy boots or other protective footwear
- Sturdy gloves
- Eye protection
- Helmet (mandatory for this event – cycling helmets are okay to use)
Will food be provided?
Yes, some beverages and snacks will be provided.
Will we be riding after?
Not planned; however, if weather permits, people are encouraged to do so!
Notes
- Parking passes will be provided for you at the meeting location; attendees do not need to purchase park passes.
- People with AT&T cellular service have good reception around the lake; others frequently do not.
- This will be a long day. You’re welcome to leave early if necessary.
- Bring a camping chair, stay and visit at the end!
- Lake Stop Grocery is located on SW Old 47, roughly 4 miles from the Eagle Point Recreation Area; they have lots of snacks, beverages, and other supplies. They will be open from 6:30 AM – 7 PM the day of the work party.
