NWTA x Cyclepath West – Beginner MTB Ride in Forest Park – 10/18
October 18 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Let’s kick off the weekend with a fun beginner mountain bike ride in Forest Park, hosted by NWTA and Cyclepath West – see you there!
Curious about mountain biking? Eager to dip your toes into the world of off-road cycling? Join Northwest Trail Alliance and Cyclepath West for a beginner-oriented ride through Portland’s Forest Park.
The ride: Cyclepath will provide a shuttle to the top of the Leif Erikson trail. The group will ride back to the shop on Thurman Street along Leif Erikson, with an optional off-road loop in the middle. Leif Erikson is a double-track gravel roadbed open to bikes but not cars.
- Option #1: Leif Erikson from top to bottom (11.5 miles, rolling descent)
- Option #2: Leif Erikson to Saltzman Rd. to Firelane 5 to Leif Erikson down to lower trailhead (14.5 miles, rolling decent with a steep up/down on the side loop)
Who this is for: Really, anyone! The ride will be designed with beginners in mind. You don’t need to know the lingo and you don’t need any off-road experience. This is a great place to see what the off-road hype is all about and make some friends all while enjoying a pleasant, light ride.
The gear: Please come prepared with an off-road ready bike in safe, working condition. This means the tires are a little wider, ideally you’ve got some gears, and suspension (shocks) are useful but not required. If you need to borrow a bike, connect with Eric ([email protected]). Other gear reccomendations include helmet, water bottle, snacks, fanny pack or bike bag, gloves, and weather-specific clothing that can get sweaty.
The plan: Cyclepath West is excited to host us in their new space on NW Thurman Street. Arrive by 9:00 to go over the plan, and we’ll be out the door at 9:15. Afterward, join us for a hang session including light snacks and good company.
RSVP: This event is free but space is limited, so please promptly cancel if it turns out that you cannot attend so we can make sure someone else can grab your spot.
