DIG DAY — Tillamook – 11/9
November 9 @ 10:00 am – 2:30 pm
Come join us in the Tillamook for a fun-filled day of recreation, stewardship, and fun times afterward!
The scope of work for the fall & winter is still a bit TBD at this point, but similar to years past we’ll be focusing on maintaining shared-use trails (Gales Creek, Storey Burn, Wilson River Trail, Historic Hiking Loop) by removing blowdown, pruning them back, improving drainage, and re-shaping the tread caused by erosion in the rugged and steep (but gorgeous) Coast Range Mountains. Weather conditions are always variable out there, but we will reschedule if conditions warrant.
A typical day starts at 8am for the completely optional ride/hike/run to get the legs warmed up, then a quick change of clothes at 10am to get ready for the actual work. We work on the designated trail section from 10am-2:30pm, then usually celebrate with a warm fire, some hot food (options for those with dietary restrictions provided), and a variety of provided beverages from Pelican, Hopworks, and others. Total hiking distance when working is less than 4 miles round-trip.
Tools can be provided as needed. We break into smaller crews, each led by an experienced crew lead who can provide direction and answer questions as needed to ensure you’re having a safe, fun, and productive time.
As dates get closer, the Tillamook LST (Nathan Frechen) will provide details (when & where to meet up, what to bring, etc). Feel free to reach out to him proactively at [email protected] with any questions you may have in advance.
