Drop off & Pick up location: Gateway Fred Meyer Parking Lot, Corner of NE 99th & NE Pacific
Event Location: Gateway Green
Rider Experience: Beginner/intermediate with ½ – 1 of riding on dirt trails.
No bike or helmet required! Kids can ride one of our Trek Bicycles!
This class is for kids who are already comfortable riding a bike on some “Green” mountain bike dirt trail and grass and down features up to 3-4 inches high. They can stand and coast on the pedals. They can shift gears and corner, but it might not go as smoothly as it could — or at the right time. They are interested in rolling over taller features and riding pump tracks (or rolling terrain) without pedaling the whole time. They can ride 1-2 miles on a trail or bike path.
During this class: Riders will learn to ride in an organized manner into and out of Gateway Green. Riders will work on balancing improving shifting over varying terrain, including trails and pump tracks (or rolling terrain), and corner with more confidence, more smoothly. They’ll learn to climb, descend and ride faster; they’ll also learn slow-riding skills to have fun riding more technical trails, including drops 6-10” high – if they want to. The wheels may leave the ground on drops, but we aren’t jumping yet.
Equipment: Do not have a mountain bike? Participants are able to use one of our Trek Fleet bikes (& helmet provided)
Participants should have their own water, wear layers appropriate for the weather, and have a backpack to take with them to the park.
No items will stay at the drop-off site.
