From the day that Scooter joined the NWTA board, he took the term “working board member” very seriously. As the Rocky Point Liaison and later adding Quartermaster to his title, Scooter has let no moss grow beneath his boots. If you haven’t seen him in action, you have most definitely benefited from his work. From overseeing and logging out the north side rebuild of Rocky Point to working with Scappoose Fire & Rescue to establish emergency checkpoints across the entire trail system, as well as facilitating the donation of the One Wheel Rescue Litter to help extract injured riders, he has been the go-to person for all things “RP.”
As Quartermaster, Scooter has kept Rocky Point flush with trail tools and every trail system across our region. Thus, quality tools are getting into the hands of volunteers building and maintaining hundreds of miles of trails. He has also spent countless hours repairing hand tools and brushes and NWTA’s busy fleet of machines, easily saving the organization thousands of dollars.
In five and a half years of board service, Scooter has overseen a lot of growth during his tenure, including the signing of the lease with Weyerhaeuser for Rocky Point, hiring our very first full-time Executive Director and staff as well as managing a membership that more than tripled during this time and the growing pains that coincide with change and expansion. With every step along the way, Scooter has risen to the occasion, and whether he knew it or not, he sets an example for what service to others in the community can look like.
We are pleased (and relieved) to say that although Scooter’s time on the board has come to an end, he will still be serving as Quartermaster and on the Rocky Point Committee. This enabled the board to add a new and much-needed position; it’s just one more reason to respect this guy! If you see Scooter out and about, give him a fist bump or a high five, he deserves it.
P.S. He makes killer brownies and breakfast sandwiches. Hang around long enough, and you’ll find out.
