NWTA Volunteers Continue Work on the Hagg Lake Loop Trail Re-Route
On January 24, 2026, a crew of eight volunteers returned to Henry Hagg Lake to continue progress on the Loop Trail re-route. This work is part of an ongoing effort to restore a section of the loop that has been closed following the loss of a bridge due to an uprooted tree.

Corridor Clearing Completed and Tread Taken to Mineral Soil
The crew focused on advancing the re-route by finishing corridor clearing and bringing the final quarter mile of tread down to mineral soil. Reaching mineral soil is a critical step in building a durable trail foundation and sets the stage for long-term sustainability and future shaping.
Benching Begins on Complex Sections of the Re-Route
In addition to corridor work, volunteers began benching some of the more complex areas at the north end of the planned re-route. This phase of construction requires careful attention to alignment and slope and represents an important transition from preparation to full trail build.

Ideal Conditions and a Strong Work Crew
Highlights from the day included excellent soil conditions and a highly motivated, efficient crew. Sunny skies and unseasonably warm temperatures by mid-day made for comfortable working conditions and helped keep productivity high throughout the dig day.
Why the Hagg Lake Loop Trail Re-Route Matters
Roughly one mile of the 13.6-mile Hagg Lake Loop Trail remains closed due to the damaged bridge. The re-route currently under construction will provide a safe, sustainable alternative and allow trail users to once again enjoy a continuous loop around the lake once completed.
Thank you to everyone who came out and contributed to this important phase of the project. Each work party brings NWTA one step closer to reopening this section of trail and improving the overall experience at Hagg Lake.
