NWTA and Partners Awarded a Recreational Trails Program Grant for $150,000 for a New Trail in the Gorge

Congratulations, NWTA! Along with our partners at Port of Cascade Locks and the US Forest Service, Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, we were awarded a Recreational Trails Program Grant for $150,000 to build a new trail system with bike optimized trails in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

To fulfill this grant, NWTA agreed to contribute a match of $22,943, including in-kind (volunteer labor and tools) and machine operations (fuel, parts, tires, etc.).  We will be building 3 miles of new trail and refreshing the Gorge Trail #400 as our match to the professionally built 3 miles of trail in more complex terrain on the hillside.
This first phase will include at least 6.5 miles of new trail. Your NWTA advocacy team has been working on this project idea for over 12 years, and we are excited to get things going. Don’t get your tools sharpened yet as we have some paperwork to finish, and we will provide more updates soon, but a little end-of-year giving would be ok though, and it will be leveraged 6:1.
