Purpose and Role of the Portland Parks & Recreation Board
The essential purpose of the Portland Parks Board is to advocate for the well-being of, and equitable access to, Portland Parks & Recreation services. This advisory board utilizes the recommendations of the Parks 2020 Vision and other PP&R strategic initiatives adopted by City Council at the forefront of discussions; ensuring that parks, natural areas, open spaces and recreation facilities are advanced throughout the city; providing continuity when transitions occur in the leadership of PP&R and City Council; and providing a forum for public discussion and advising on park issues, bringing a city-wide and long-term perspective to neighborhood-based issues.
