February 12, 2024 – Last month’s week-long snow and ice storms brought down a lot more trees and windfall than usual around the region’s trail systems. Each year, Sandy Ridge trails takes the brunt of the winter weather as it sits at a high elevation on the flanks of Mt. Hood. This storm proved no exception, as our volunteers and trail users found trees down and across the trails once it was safe to head up.
Over the weekend, the NWTA Sandy Ridge Lead Stewardship Team (LST) organized a crew to safely do a huge cutout of the windfall. A BIG, HUGE, MASSIVE thank you to the volunteer USFS-certified NWTA saw crews that put in over 56 hours of work on Saturday to clear downed trees off Upper Hide & Seek, portions of 338 and Two Turn Tables at Sandy Ridge Trails.
Approximately 24 trees were cut and cleared off the trails, along with numerous tree limbs and debris. All of this work is done by volunteers who make the time to clear the trails for all of us to enjoy. These folks paid it forward today. Thank you!
Thank you to Sandy Ridge LSTs Shane and Brent; and to Lee, Gabriel, Cody, Rick, Scooter, Mark AND their significant others for supporting them to do this volunteer work.
Several trails still have trees down and we will continue to remove them as time allows. Trail work dates for 2024 will be posted soon. Enjoy the trails!
