Our Trail Sister’s Dig Days started up in January with great success. The motivation behind holding these dig days was not only to have a fun trail built exclusively by womxn but to give them the foundational skills and knowledge of trail building. These skills are essential to trail work so that confidence comes easily while building a proper trail.
We covered the steps we can all take to keep safe while working in the forest and identify a plethora of trail tools and how they are best used on the trail. Putting this information to work, we split into four small groups with two participants per instructor and cycled through clearing the corridor, benchwork, and building berms.
Although learning and skill-building are incredibly beneficial, it is safe to say that the best part of the day was hearing the forest full of laughter and the camaraderie that comes from passionate people doing what they love with like-minded individuals in a beautiful forest.
Our next Womxn’s Dig Day is this Saturday, the 27th. Stoke is high – spaces filled in less than a day. If you missed out, fear not, you will have another opportunity in March; keep an eye on social media and our website.
