Mount St Helens

Lewis River Ride - beginner!

We have two beginning mtb'ers from the Mount St Helens Institute who would like to go out on a ride!  So, for their first ride I've picked the Lewis River Trail from the lower trailhead up to at least the Shelter.  Please let me know if you are interested in joining us for a ride along the beautiful Lewis River.  Meeting times and place: 09:00A at the Gateway Park and Ride.  Turn west on NE Pacific and go to the parking lot at the southern end of Gateway Transit Center.

Quartz Creek Trail Work Party, Gifford Pinchot NF

One of the trails NWTA needs to work on this summer on the Gifford Pinchot NF is the Quartz Creek Trail.  On this work party we will concentrate on the lower two miles of this trail which is known for it's old growth forest.  Please contact coordinator before Wednesday August 5th for meeting time/location.  Plan on spending all day working on this scenic trail.

Ape Canyon Trail Work Party

The Growlers Gulch Trail Crew will be doing some work on the Ape Canyon Trail and need some extra bodies!  The upper portion of the trail is in need of some brushing out and other general maintenance work.

They will be meeting at the Ape Canyon trailhead parking lot at 8:00A, which means you should leave the Portland area no later than about 6:15A to arrive in time.  Early, yes, but when it comes to maintaining one of the best trails around, what's the issue of getting up at dawn on a Saturday to the trail?

Boundary Trail, Mount St Helens, WA

On July 3, 2009 Cecily and Jordan Norris and I rode the Boundary Trail in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest from Elk Pass to Ghost Lake.  For a map of the ride go to:  Elk Pass is on Forest Road 25.

On this 18 mile round trip ride we were the only users of the trail, other than two people who hiked from the west with their two dogs to Ghost Lake.

Mt St Helens area Work Parties

South Coldwater Trail, Mount St Helens, work party

The Growlers Gulch Trail Crew (Mountain Bike Mutts) from Longview, the hard working dedicated folks who bring you the TDG, are putting on a trail work party on the South Coldwater Trail, Mount St Helens.  From Jim LeMonds website:

"While you still have that post-Tour de Gulch glow, now is the time to make a commitment to payback.

Mount St Helens area work party - Plains of Abraham

Join us as we work on one of the trails at Mount St Helens National Volcanic Monument.   On this trip we will do some more work up on the Plains of Abraham working to repair the water damaged trail.  We will ride to the top of Ape Canyon to recover the tool cache, and then ride on up to the work site.  Plan on spending several hours of work time up on the Plains before descending.
