March 2024
We know the community has been anxiously awaiting an update on Gateway Green park!
As part of Trimet’s Better Red project, an area on the south side of the park with the trails known as the “Gravity Lines” was affected. It was always known that the impending project would change the landscape on the south end of the park, with many exciting improvements. The project includes a direct pedestrian/bike bridge into Gateway Green from the Gateway Transit Center, making drastic improvements to access and wayfinding to the park. In preparation for the final steps of the Better Red project, the remaining Gravity Lines area will be CLOSED until further notice.
We are pleased to announce the rebuilding of the Gravity Lines will begin in April. CB2 Recreation will be doing the design and construction, in close collaboration with NWTA and our Local Stewardship Team (LST) members. The anticipated opening date of the Gravity Lines is August 24, 2024.
NWTA would like to acknowledge all of our community partners who have contributed – and continue to contribute – to making bike facilities for the City of Portland a reality. Thank you Portland Parks & Recreation, Trimet, and Stacey and Witbeck and Friends of Gateway Green. Also, a massive shoutout to our LST at Gateway Green: Tim Copeman, Jay Baird, and Will Heiberg; and NWTA volunteer Mark Rainha. We look forward to working with CB2 Recreation and Raimore Construction (the PP&R Gateway Green general contractor) this spring and summer.
Stay tuned for more updates in the coming months, and remember to please respect trail closure signs at ALL times for your safety and the safety of construction staff.
