NWTA recently partnered with Adelante Mujeres, a nonprofit based in Forest Grove that provides holistic education and empowerment for Latine women and their families. As part of their Adult Education Leadership class, supported by a grant from ODOT, students put their learning into practice in a way that brought families, bikes, and stewardship together.

This year’s event included:
- A group ride around the Hagg Lake loop trail
- Trail maintenance to clear overgrowth and widen the footpath to lake access
- And plenty of smiles, stories, and shared effort from 25 participants (including 10 trail-working volunteers)

One highlight says it all:
“I had the opportunity to see a father 100% committed to helping and encouraging his 5-year-old daughter to learn and continue throughout the entire bike ride without giving up. That was something that filled me with satisfaction, since we can be a part of this as teachers. That moment was worth all the work and effort we put into our activities and classes.” – Ma. Luisa

This annual event serves as a capstone for Adelante’s school year, a chance to celebrate, ride together, and lead by example in caring for the land.
Special thanks to Metropolis Cycle Repair for supporting this event and continuing to show up for women, femmes, non-binary, and trans riders across our region.
