On Saturday 7/31 after 15+ months of separation due to COVID-19 NWTA & the Women, Trans, Femme (WTF) riders from Metropolis Cycle Repair gathered to conduct a Beginners Skill Building Ride at Sandy Ridge. The goal of this event was to have the attendees build their confidence when riding trails like the ones at Sandy Ridge.
After a morning of introductions, the entire group participated in an exercise where they practiced basic body positioning. The group then played a game often called ‘foot down” where everyone rides in a circle and as soon as you stop & put a foot down you were disqualified. The end result of the game is that the circle gets smaller and the one who is left still pedaling their bike wins! Congratulations to volunteer extraordinaire Petra W. for being the last one without a “foot down”!
Four different skill groups formed with the Metropolis WTF riders leading the way. Supporting each leader was an NW Trail Sisters volunteer. After a few hours of learning and sessioning on the trails, the group returned to a hosted BBQ by Metropolis Cycle Repair and adult refreshments generously provided by Hopworks Urban Brewing.
We would like to say thank you to all who participated in this event. It was great to once again see each other and ride bikes. Sad that you missed it? Be on the lookout for other rides and clinics by checking our calendar at https://nw-trail.org/events/
