Gateway Green is Open

Written by Juntu Oberg

While Phase 2 upgrades are not yet complete, Portland Parks and Rec has opened the park for public use. Park hours for Gateway Green are 5 am to 9 pm. Crews are still working on elements such as utilities, so please stay clear of any workers. Services such as the Portland Loo (restroom), water, and trash receptacles may not be available. Please come prepared. We will share news via a press release once the park is officially open.

The park now features new trails (please refrain from riding when wet), a new picnic & nature play area, and a Velosolutions asphalt pump track. NWTA would like to thank our partners at Portland Parks and Recreation for creating a world-class mountain bike park in the City of Portland. We would like to thank all of the volunteers who have been a part of this journey, some since the very beginning. Many thanks go to our very own Tom Archer and Will Heiberg for their vision, tenacity, and endurance on this project that benefits the entire community. NWTA also thanks our partners at Friends of Gateway Green, METRO, Sasquatch Trails, The UnPavement Project & C2 Recreation.

Please remember that Multnomah County is in the EXTREME RISK category for COVID-19 spread. The park is very popular so please follow the public health guidelines that include:

  • Wear a face covering.
  • Watch your distance from others.
  • Wash and sanitize your hands regularly and thoroughly.

“With winter rain making much of the unpaved sections off-limits (riding muddy/saturated trails is a big no-no!), all attention was on the new asphalt pump track. With a holiday weekend upon us and the official blessing from Parks, a healthy crowd turned out on Thanksgiving Day” Says Jonathon Maus of BikePortland on opening day.
