Trail Sisters Gear Swap and Ride Recap

Written by Nancy Stone ([email protected])

Who knew that having a gear swap and two guided rides would be so much fun?

The Trail Sisters did!

So many of us have extra gear that we have accumulated over time that is just sitting in our closets, collecting dust, and taking up space. At the same time, other folks may be in need of a pair of riding gloves, a helmet, or a pair of riding shorts that don’t have a mud-stained backside. A couple of Trail Sisters put their heads together and figured out a simple solution to these problems … A FREE GEAR SWAP!

On Sunday morning many Trail Sisters arrived at Sandy Ridge bearing armfuls of riding clothes, bike parts, and gear. The motto of the day was, “bring what you can, take what you need.” Most of the participants came away with much-needed items, and many even wore their new-to-them riding gear on their guided rides. (Truly the best kind of fashion show.)

Two guided rides accompanied the Gear Swap. First, 13 intermediate riders headed off on their adventure, followed by 11 beginner riders an hour later. Both groups ended back at the gear swap nearly simultaneously, grinning from ear to ear and emitting so much positive energy. Even with socially distant socializing, these Trail Sisters could make new riding friends, exchange contact information, and, of course, do a little more shopping!

A special thanks to our leadership team; without them, this event wouldn’t have been possible. Allie, Bekah, Kayla, Anna, Ali, and Brenna, your energy, positivity, and willingness to show up in a big way is admirable. It sets a fantastic example of how to build community. Thank you!
